Good:

It’s been a little over a week since we closed, and I still have not been able to entirely rap my brain around what this show has meant to me. (Bear with me).

When I first started doing research for auditions back in October of last year, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Like many of you who came to see the play, I had not heard of it. When I finally found the time to sit in my dorm with my AirPods in and pirate the National Theatre’s production of it, I’d like to think I had a similar experience to those of you who sat in JP with us as we went through the journey together.

I had never seen a show that sent it’s main character out on stage and made the audience watch them for the entirety of the performance; allowing for there to be a fully realized arc in a little under 2 hours. I also thought that there would be absolutely no universe in which I would make myself even attempt to play such a character, but audition week was crazy so here we are.

I will forever be indebted to the directing team of Harvey Rovine and Stevie File, who through this process, helped me fully realize and get rid of any thought of playing this character as a remorseful human being. John Halder might start the show as an average man, but I think there comes a point where we all need to stop allowing the “good” in ourselves to become a blanket for others to hide under.

To my fellow cast members, thank you for putting everything into your characters. Going from scene to scene with each of you was a wonderful dance that never failed to be refreshing.

To our incredible crew, thank you for keeping us afloat in so many graceful ways. You created a beautiful work of art with this show.

To my friends and family, thank you for not allowing me to go insane in the month of February. Whether I arrived unannounced at your house, invited myself to your dorm, or turned a seemingly normal dining hall lunch into some (now probably unimportant) rant, you were always willing to listen.

Finally, thank you for seeing our show. Let’s keep educating ourselves on the past as well as the present, and turn it into beautiful art.
