She said yes!

On the morning of May 21st at 5:42 AM I proposed to my best friend, my life partner and the person that has had the most profound positive effect on my life.

I’m so thankful for all the adventures, the conversations, the support and the growth that we have shared over the last 3+ years.

Because of this proposal I have been thinking a lot about what marriage is, what I want in our marriage and what it means to be married. These thoughts shaped how I wanted to propose to Hannah.

When researching where I wanted to propose to Hannah there were many beautiful spots to do so in Yosemite. Many people propose at Taft’s point or Glacier point overlooking the Valley but I was unsure if the road would be open in late May due to snow cover so those were out of the picture. Next, Cooks meadow looking out to Yosemite falls is one of the classic proposal spots. While I like waterfalls I’ve never been frozen in my tracks by a waterfall. As a climber I have read, watched movies and documentaries about Yosemite and specifically about El Capitan the most prominent rock face arguably in the world. My background in climbing and the knowledge that the Dawn Wall is cast with beautiful soft sunlight at sunrise lead me to choose El Cap meadows as the spot I wanted to profess my love to Hannah. The natural beauty aside, I feel that a cliff such as El Capitan represents great complexity, adventure, challenge, fear, logistics, triumph, endurance, mental fortitude, emotional vulnerability, grit, persistence, perseverance and constant learning. This is true both the case for climbing on El Cap but also for a marriage. El Capitan is a symbol of what I think a marriage is going to be like, and maybe I will come to find out that my thoughts need to evolve. But these are the reasons and the thoughts behind why and how I proposed to my favorite person in the whole world here in this location, in front of El Capitan, and not somewhere else.

We are tying in for the adventure of a life time and I couldn’t be more excited to be doing it with you, Hannah Lena Green.

I love you “Till El Cap meadows”

P.S. Yosemite sucks, you should never go there. by @jonas.spaulding

She thought she was going into Yosemite at 5am just to catch the sunrise but really it was for a surprise proposal! ✨🕊️

Loved everything about this morning we had at Yosemite. The sweetest couple from Vermont that I had the honor of photographing. Their love for each other was so genuine and effortless 🤍 Also they’re so cool and know how to rock climb! So we ended our shoot pretty awesome!!

Congratulations on being engaged! (And we of course had to choose a Noah Kahan song again because they said they lived in the same town as him lol :) !)

Hidden Lines film 🎥 showing at Middlebury this Friday details below. 👇🏼

“Have you skied with the Energizer Bunny?”

In 2022, my good friend Andy Knight introduced me to Adam Kruszyna.
They were planning a trip to Mt. Katahdin with Noah Johnson.
When I heard about it, I immediately wanted in.

The Katahdin trip was my first real backcountry expedition.

It was intense, slow, and a little chaotic.
It was also really calm and beautiful.
I learned a lot about my gear and my willpower.

What stuck with me was how differently Adam approached backcountry skiing.
I was newer to the sport, so I didn’t really know what proficiency looked like.

After each day’s objective was completed, my boots stayed off.
Meanwhile, Adam would go out and ski nighttime blizzard laps.
He’d return late, covered in snow, and still be on a ski line for sunrise before the rest of us were awake.

In the moment, I thought he was a bit insane.
I needed more sleep and better fitness.
Skiing day and night was too much for me. That much I knew.

Adam’s drive is humbling, but never debilitating.
Although he still outpaces me handily in the mountains, he’s incredibly patient and generous with everything he’s learned.

He’ll charge ahead, knowing you can follow his tracks, and have a snow bench carved out for lunch by the time you reach him.

Where I see a wall of trees and no way through, Adam sees dozens of possibilities.

The Hidden Lines is coming to Burke Mountain! I cannot wait to show it at the mountain where I grew up learning to ski! 🎬 ⛷️❄️

Saturday, January 3
Burke Mtn Hotel Ballroom, East Burke VT
Doors 5pm, Film at 5:45pm, followed with a Q/A and behind the scenes slide-show.

At the heart of this film is Adam Kruszyna, a Vermont native whose mental map of his home terrain has been years in the making. What began in the 250-acre forest behind his childhood home has grown to include the rugged backcountry of Jay, Vermont. An engineer by trade and a dedicated skier, Adam doesn’t reject technology - he uses it with intention. By tracking routes, logging conditions, and mapping lines, he not only makes the terrain more navigable, but also builds a deeper, more intuitive understanding of the landscape he calls home.

In The Hidden Lines, we follow Adam as he returns to previously written-off zones with a more refined eye, revisiting terrain with a methodical blend of intuition and engineering precision. His goal is not just to ski the best lines on the East Coast, it’s to connect to them deeply, and in doing so, connect to something larger than skiing.

Proceeds from this screening will benefit NorthWoods
Stewardship Center.

$10/person
