MEET A THESPIAN: Jonas Castillo

This week’s episode features a conversation with a true comedy renaissance man. Born and raised in San Francisco, Jonas Castillo is a standup comedian who uses his off-beat upbringing and signature sing-song delivery that makes his self-deprecating stories feel strangely optimistic. A rising fixture in the Bay Area, Jonas has been seen at SF Punchline, the San Jose Improv, and the Filipino Comedy Festival. Beyond the stage, he is a producer behind Laughs w/ Benefits and Standup Power Hour. Whether he’s performing or producing, audiences and peers agree: Jonas is a good kid, he’s just going through something.

In our conversation we talked about the sanctity of standup comedy as an art form, growing up in the Bay Area, mental health, and how we got here.

Upcoming performances

You can catch Jonas live at:
Fireside Lounge in Alameda on July 30th
Comedy Oakland on July 31st @comedyoakland
Laughs with Benefits at Adobe Books (every 4th Friday) @laughswbenefits

You can catch Jonas on stage all the time, and also acting in the short film Late Show at the End of the Universe (forthcoming later this year) and in the upcoming television series THESPIANS.

🔥 GAYSIANS 🔥

“Local to San Francisco” doesn’t even begin to cover it.

🎤 JONAS CASTILLO (@jonasfunnyhaha)

Jonas Castillo hits the stage with an off-beat upbringing, a sing-song delivery, and the energy of someone who has absolutely taken MUNI too far in both directions.

You’ve seen him at SF Punchline, Rooster T Feathers, and the Filipino Comedy Festival—plus producing shows all over the Bay with Laughs w/ Benefits, Tumen Laughs, and Standup Power Hour.

Translation: he’s booked, busy, and still somehow has time to be extremely funny.
