Italy, Coffee and APP-y Hour! 🇮🇹 ☕ 💻

Boyan Georgiev and I are bringing live vibe coding back to @view_conference! Last year, the workshop experiment became a schedule website people actually used. This year, we’re (re-)building a new version live, fresh ideas and your input.

Join us for two hours of creating, experimenting, breaking things and fixing them together.

This isn't a coding class, and you don't need to be a programmer. Its a workshop for VFX artists, animators and other creatives who want to understand how AI can help them build their own tools, prototypes, interfaces, and ideas. No coding experience needed, just curiosity! by @jonaskluger

Five years of Das Element. How time flies … What’s the location behind me? It’s a pub in Camden Town, London. Inspired by a pint of beer, this is where we came up with the name: Das Element

More than five years ago, I embarked on a journey to build an asset library software.

Luckily, I didn’t fully understand everything what it would entail: countless hours of development, the uncertainty of building a business, setbacks, lessons and the persistence required to keep moving forward.

Some people told me it couldn’t be done: “the market is too niche”, “there aren’t enough potential users” — Boy, am I glad I kept going!

Today, @daselementvfx is used by more than 50 studios worldwide and has become part of the production pipelines behind feature films, TV series, commercials and many other projects.

Is asset management the most glamorous topic in VFX? Probably not. But it is a vital part of every pipeline. Done well, it saves artists from frustration and hours of searching, allowing creative teams to focus on what they do best.

And the journey is far from over. Technology evolves, pipelines improve, and new ideas and concepts continue to keep things exciting.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported Das Element, shared feedback, reported bugs or simply encouraged me along the way. Thank you!!

Let’s see where the road takes us next. Happy fifth anniversary, @daselementvfx 🎂🎉

For now, it’s time to cut the anniversary cake and leave you with a fitting quote:

“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” — Bilbo Baggins by @jonaskluger

Recap Siggraph 2026 in Los Angeles by @jonaskluger

SIGGRAPH 2026 in LA is officially in the books! 🎬

DigiPro was the perfect way to kick off the week, with outstanding technical presentations and inspiring discussions.

Followed by another highlight, the VES Women Who Lead session with Tara DeMarco and her insights into the collaboration between VFX supervision, production design and cinematography.

This year was also special because Das Element had the opportunity again to give back by sponsoring the Siggraph for Beginners session. Helping newcomers make the most of their first Siggraph felt especially meaningful. Hope everyone enjoyed the snacks and beverages.

The Visual Effects Society Mixer was memorable evening. As Chair of the VES Germany Section it was a pleasure to connect with fellow VES members from around the world and spend time with such a passionate community.

It was also great to catch up with the team from ActionVFX. Huge congratulations to Rodolphe Pierre-Louis and the entire team on 10 years of ActionVFX.

One of the nicest surprises of the week happened at the Foundry party, where we unexpectedly ran into Jacob Slutsky. Jacob was one of the earliest adopters of Das Element and his thoughtful feedback over the years has genuinely helped shape the software. It was great to finally meet in person after working together for so long. 👏

The perfect way to wrap up the week was Pixar's RenderMan Art & Science Fair, an evening filled with presentations, great conversations and plenty of laughs. Shout out to the legandary Renderman team from Wendy Wirthlin and Dylan Sisson. 🫖👽

Throughout the week, we had great conversations about Das Element, asset management and modern production pipelines. Hearing how studios are tackling these challenges, exchanging ideas and sharing what we've been building always leaves me with fresh motivation. Now it's time to head back home, start coding again and turn many of those conversations and ideas into new features.

Thank you to the fantastic crew we're lucky enough to travel the world with ❤️

Already looking forward to next year!

Recap of Annecy 2026 - animation, friends and plenty of sunshine ☀️
It's always a pleasure to return to the beautiful scenery of Annecy in the north of France. Every year, the festival reminds me why it's one of the best places to connect with the animation community.

It was great to see the animation industry continuing to thrive, with games, VFX and animation becoming more interconnected than ever. The collaboration between these creative fields is only getting stronger.

Speaking of powerful, @pixarsrenderman 's XPU renderer continues to impress. As always, Dylan Sisson's presentation was one of the highlights of the week. I'm definitely looking forward to Toy Story 5 … 6 7

One of the most memorable moments was watching Walking with Animators, the documentary by Alexandre Poncet, Gilles Penso and Eugénie Poncet . Eight years (!!) in the making, it's a beautiful declaration of love to the craft of animation and a heartfelt tribute to the artists who bring stories to life. If you have the chance to see it, don't miss it.

A big thank you to the @ves_french_section for organizing the panel discussion and networking event. Annecy is always the perfect place to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. Special thanks to Chauvet Bastien, Quentin H. Martin and the entire team for making it such a memorable event.

Thank you for the German reception and congratulations to Agon Ushaku on the new role as Project Manager at @fmxconference

Networking is simply better by the lake with a cocktail in hand. 🍸

A special shout-out to the conference crew: Heike Kluger, Wendy Wirthlin, Adele Khawli, Hayley Miller, Dylan Sisson, Jean Christophe Rodier, Mark Flanagan, Hal Hickel, Christophe Rodo and everyone else ...

Annecy, thank you for another fantastic week. See you again next year!

London was simply amazing!
@jonaskluger and I usually try to go once a year to visit studios and check out the VFX industry. This year, one of my best friends turned 40 so she joined us and we made sure to hit as many musicals and shows as possible!
From quirky pubs, to peach beer, rooftop business meetings, musicals, theatres and, of course, high tea. We had a blast! Thank you London for having us - not one rainy cloud in sight ☀️ by @jonaskluger
