When @jonaskonijnenberg asked me about 4 years ago if he could create a movie about me and my achievements in the slackline world, I was really sceptical at first. It felt weird to have someone creating a movie. But then I also thought that it could actually be nice to have a glimpse into part of the history of highlining. And I agreed. Little did I know how much effort Jonas would put into this project. Amazing drone shots, great interviews and tons of editing work. And the outcome is truly amazing! There are of course always some parts that could be improved, but at one point it's good if a project is finished - ready to be shown to the world. And I'd like to thank Jonas so much for creating this movie - for the countless hours he put into this project.

Watching the movie now makes me realize that the sport has still evolved fast in the last years. Since the movie has been finished - which is not that long ago - highline freestyle has taken a big jump in the level. I've started going for Deep Water Solo Sessions and have pushed that discipline since. It's fantastic to look back - and see how far we've come from and that the sport is still moving forward in fast steps. I'm curious where it will take us. For sure, slacklining has brought a lot of adventure and fun and good friends into my life. I'm so grateful for all the years that I could spend in that sport with this amazing community. And I hope to stay in the scene for a while.

If you haven't watched the movie yet, don't forget to schedule it for one of your next movie nights. It's now free to watch on youtube. The title: "
Samuel Volery: "The Slackline Legend" (Documentary)" - Please don't forget to leave a comment on Youtube after watching. Thank you :) by @jonaskonijnenberg

"lets go for a walk after the rain"

@jonaskonijnenberg in a rain jacket with all his camera equipement, me on the line with an umbrella, waiting for the rain to stop and the sky to open up.

Eventually the sun came out, and Jonas played all his magic and made me feel like I'm the nephew of Mary Poppins! I mean Im literally flying and holding on to an umbrella, how much closer can you get? I had a lot of fun!
Thanks for your amazing Art Jonas, to capture that beauty of a memory🫶🏻

“Viva Mexico Freestyle Highline”

Jonas Konijnenberg, born in 1990 in the Netherlands. https://www.youtube.com/@JonasKonijnenberg Married to a Mexican-American. Known for his slackline photography and videography. Before being a professional highline photographer, Jonas was a professional highliner himself.

Created this video together with Tlaloc and Franco. We were hanging out after the World Championships, where we participated as athletes and media professionals. At the world championships, Tlaloc became 2nd at the Men’s Freestyle and Erándeni became 7th at the Women’s Freestyle competition. Franco is known for throwing crazy ‘space’ tricks, tricks where the line, while making a front flip, flies around him like a jump rope.
Afterwards, on the Sustenpass in Switzerland this little portrait of the three Mexicans on top of the Swiss mountain came to life.
Tlaloc Moctezuma Burns, Erándeni Nava Galindo, Franco Cano in their element: on the freestyle highline. Freestyle highlining is a slackline discipline where a slackliner performs highly dynamic tricks on the line. Through the elastic webbing, enriched with bungees, tricks like “almighties” are done on the momentum of the bounce.
On the world championships, Tlaloc became 2nd at the Men’s Freestyle and Erándeni became 4th at the Women’s Freestyle competition.

Jonas Konijnenberg is also director of “Samuel Volery: the Slackline Legend” (2025). It won the “Best Picture Audience Award” at the Pakistan mountain film festival 2026.

Stories of Sustenpass 2026.
I remember seeing the spot online for the first time and thinking; why would you go rig mid waterlines in a land of epic possibilities like Switzerland?
For my 2nd time after a world championships in @flims_laax we went to Sustenpass. With a van full of food, tents, dirtbags and cameras we climbed up to the highest parking spot out there. Many others joined us. After an intense event like the WC, it’s incredible to have more time without agenda on a mountaintop with these incredible slackliners from all across the globe. Mexicans, Americans, Brazilians, Frenchies, Argentinians, Germans, Italians and Dutchies (probably missed a few) were all camping and playing together. While in the valley heat strokes and fire hazards were a real problem, our problems consisted of; should we rig another line? Breakfast before or after highline? Movie night or not? Do we have another documentary to show?
After spending nearly 2 weeks in this bubble we were all so satisfied and happy that we exactly knew; this is the reason why we go to Sustenpass!
Thank you amazing friends for spending and sharing our precious lifetime up there and making unforgettable memories that will help us in our ‘normal’ life’s 🤟❤️‍🔥🌈🥹

This summer’s FLIMSxLAAX @slackline_international world championships were a blast again. This edition I was part of the livestream team. With 20 slackliners under the direction of @lodesteenhoudt we pulled off a kick ass 20 hours of livestream about the competition. My role in the the team was to be non stop in the sky with my drones. Due to many visitors, playing kids on the square and the crazy amount of wires in he sky (not only slacklines, also gondola cables) I had quite some challenges in this role. Because my controller had to be wired to the livestream office, I couldn’t land, change batteries and fly up by myself. I need the help of the amazing drone team: @homiemostasis @slacklife_adama @slackerioz Vojtek, thanks bros for the non stop help!
Last edition I was the main photographer of the event. Sometimes I missed the creative freedom that role had. Nevertheless I felt super proud of us pulling an amazing livestream off. I feels great to work in such a big team all together and put something so good together! Every teammember had an important role. And it felt so fulfilling to know that every slackliner on the earth could follow the event through our effort.
I’m happy to see my pictures of last edition all over the event booklet and on the event T-shirts.

I did manage to take some pictures during the event. Some of them came together after a 12 hr livestream day, while walking to my bike to get dinner. I saw -later to be crowned world champion- @lp_liliangpeng practice in the evening for the speedline finals, while the moon showed itself above the mountains. I couldn’t not postpone my dinner and drop all my stuff to grab my camera and take some shots 🤩
