On May 13 and 14, the Abbasid Palace in Baghdad hosted Tigris Movie Nights, a two-day open-air short film festival featuring a selection of 12 films from Iraq, Germany, and France.

The program brought together works that explore themes of violence, identity, environmental crisis, and social resilience, offering audiences a spectrum of narratives shaped by distinct cultural and historical contexts.

Set in one of Baghdad’s most iconic heritage sites, the screenings transformed the palace courtyard into a space for cinematic reflection and intercultural dialogue. The event included a Q&A with German director Jonas Steinacker, adding depth to the festival’s commitment to fostering conversation across borders.

Organized by the Goethe-Institut Irak and the Institut Français d’Irak, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities and Art City for TV and Film Production.

استضاف القصر العباسي في بغداد يومي 13 و14 مايو/أيار مهرجان ”ليالي دجلة السينمائية“، وهو مهرجان للأفلام القصيرة استمر يومين عرض فيهما مجموعة مختارة من 12 فيلمًا من العراق وألمانيا وفرنسا.

جمع البرنامج أعمالًا تستكشف مواضيع العنف والهوية والأزمة البيئية والمرونة الاجتماعية، حيث قدم للجمهور مجموعة من الروايات التي تشكلت في سياقات ثقافية وتاريخية مختلفة.

أقيمت العروض في أحد أكثر المواقع التراثية شهرة في بغداد، وحولت العروض فناء القصر إلى مساحة للتأمل السينمائي والحوار بين الثقافات. وتضمنت الفعالية جلسة أسئلة وأجوبة مع المخرج الألماني يوناس شتايناكر، مما أضاف عمقًا إلى التزام المهرجان بتعزيز الحوار عبر الحدود.

Tigris Movie Nights – a two-day open-air short film festival – brought together twelve films from Iraq, Germany, and France. Through stories exploring violence, the environment, identity, and resilience, the program offered a variety of perspectives shaped by different histories and social realities.

In the historic setting of the Abbasid Palace, the screenings invited audiences to engage with the questions that define our time – and to do so collectively, across languages, experiences, and geographies. Over two evenings, the courtyard became not only a place of film, but of encounter, exchange, and shared imagination.

The festival is a cooperation between the Goethe-Institut Irak and the Institut Français d’Irak, together with the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities and Art City for TV and Film Production.

جمع مهرجان ”ليالي دجلة السينمائي“ - وهو مهرجان للأفلام القصيرة في الهواء الطلق على مدار يومين - اثني عشر فيلمًا من العراق وألمانيا وفرنسا. من خلال قصص تستكشف العنف، والبيئة، والهوية، والقدرة على الصمود، قدم البرنامج مجموعة متنوعة من وجهات النظر التي شكلها تاريخ وواقع اجتماعي مختلف.

في الأجواء التاريخية للقصر العباسي، دعت العروض الجمهور إلى الانخراط في الأسئلة التي تحدد عصرنا - والقيام بذلك بشكل جماعي، عبر اللغات والتجارب والمناطق الجغرافية. على مدار أمسيتين، لم يصبح الفناء مكانًا للسينما فحسب، بل أصبح مكانًا للقاء والتبادل.
