My mom’s family immigrated from Germany to the US during WWII. After arriving, they made their way to Seattle, WA. They couldn’t speak English, and the only skill they had was carpentry. So, they literally built their new life by building and owning homes where what would later become part of Seattle’s suburbs.

It’s an amazing story, like so many others, that remind us taking action is most of what matters. One action after another leads to a new future. by @jonathan.gallop

After having a baby, the first time they do anything is exciting. First smile, first word (thank God it was mama!), first step, first 8 hours sleep… and on.

But there’s a dark-side to the firsts that sneak up on you… it’s all the lasts your experience.

Birthdays are a reminder of those lasts that you’re moving towards, until you reach the last night they are living in your house.

We are raising our daughter to successfully live without us, when we don’t want to live without her. It’s beautifully brutal. by @jonathan.gallop

you don’t hear much about how people change to post online. each small change I’ve had to make, surprisingly has boosted my quality of life

1. less TV, scrolling, and other entertainment habits. yes, this gets me time back to record, edit, and post. But you know what? I am mentally better too. Less noise, stimulation, and distractions. It’s amazing how good focus feels.

2. structure and a schedule has given me more creative freedom. It’s wild how that works… structure = creativity.

3. sleep will unlock your true potential. you will do so much more in a day with a full tank of energy.

4. managing expectations is helping me stick with it. ā€œgrow slowā€ is a powerful mindset to not quit.

A hidden gift of consistency are the small rewards along the way. You get to see and experience them because you are there. You showed up.

I started walking 6.5K steps every morning 124 days ago. This also included strength training 3x a week, and improving my diet. I’m 44 and down 14 pounds.

I’m back to the fitness I had in my 30s.

Two things keep me on track. These sunrise moments and the amazing people around me. by @jonathan.gallop

It’s crazy how rare this is in our experience. And, how important it is to hold on to it in business partnerships, friends, and family when it’s there. by @jonathan.gallop

Oregon coast bikini šŸ¤£ā€¦ my grandmother is amazing, including her sense humor.

Among the many things I’ve learned from her, these are the big three:

First, you can do really hard things. Weeding in the rain in Oregon… no problem. We had everything we needed to stay dry (mostly) and we would be out there for hours. I quickly learned very few things are as bad as you imagine. You’ll be just fine. Simply start.

Next, character is everything. Full stop. As Charlie Munger said so eloquently, ā€œThe best way to get what you want out of life is to become the kind of person who deserves it.ā€ Character is the foundation. Skills, knowledge, and talents are the building blocks. Not the other way around.

Lastly, save for no reason. Life will eventually give you a reason (life’s surprises). They put the fear of debt in me at a young age, especially credit cards, and always reminded me to save.

Bonus: have fun with your life. Even in the bad times, you can smile. My grandparents grew up at the tail end of WWII, plus many recessions and pandemics. Their perspective is, you’ll be just fine. Humanity always finds a way through it.

My wife and I have big goals, but we rarely share them with anyone. Sharing your big dreams with others rarely ends well.

BUT there is a way to do it that brings along your family and friends in a positive way.

First, take action. It’s hard to get behind only an idea.

Next, share the daily changes, what you’re learning, and small wins.

Lastly, give it time. People believe what they see and slowly change their minds. That’s ok.

The practice is to prove it (especially for you) by action. Let’s the results speak for themselves, and have grace in the process. by @jonathan.gallop
