From Incarceration to Innovation: The Jonathan Roden Story Restorative Justice Education 🏛️

After 23 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections, Jonathan Roden didn’t just survive—he evolved.

Now, he is back behind the gates, not as an inmate, but as the coordinator for Wayne State University’s prison education program. He is currently helping incarcerated students at Macomb Correctional Facility earn their bachelor’s degrees. 🎓

Jonathan attributes much of his success to the belief placed in him by Wayne State’s Dean, Stephanie Hartwell, and the Sociology Department’s Professor Michelle Jacobs. He credits them for taking a chance on him, which gave him the confidence to take his vision to the next level.

He calls his approach ”TIME MINDED”:
🔹 T (Tangible): Creating concrete, real-world results.
🔹 I (Immediate):** Seizing the power to act right now.
🔹 M (Material): Leveraging every resource to grow.
🔹 E (Environment): Turning surroundings into a platform for success. 🌍

MEET JONATHAN RODEN

I am incredibly honored to call Jonathan Roden my brother. We first met at Wayne State University through the ETC program—a program dedicated to students impacted by the legal system. From the start, Jon and I hit the ground running, working together on various community initiatives and supporting local nonprofits.
I had to share some amazing news with everyone:

Jonathan was recently named the Director of a Prison Education Program at Macomb Correctional Facility right here in Michigan.

This is a massive accomplishment. After serving 23 years in prison, he has landed this leadership position only three years into his return home. It goes to show that hard work and dedication truly pay off.

🎧 Tune In Now

Jonathan is currently being interviewed on NPR Radio (WDET). Tap the link below to listen to the live broadcast:

A Message to Jonathan:

“Man, we are all so proud of you. I’ve seen your work firsthand—you’re a real one. You don’t complain; you just keep grinding and elevating. Keep rising, brother. I see you!”

T.I.M.E. Mind Community Outreach
“Partnering with Oak Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church”

T.I.M.E. Minded was proud to have our team on the ground with the Oak Grove African Methodist Episcopal Church on Saturday, August 2, 2025. 🌟

It truly feels rewarding to give back to the children. Although we arrived later than expected, we had a wonderful time interacting with the community, especially the kids. The highlight was the T.I.M.E. Minded scooter, which brought so much joy to the little ones! 🛴🙌 Jonathan Roden, our president, embraced the moment and brought out his inner child, illustrating the profound impact of giving back to our youth.

In a world where many may feel jaded or stuck in their ways, witnessing the genuine appreciation from children is heartwarming. Their smiles were a reminder of the simple joys in life. 😊

I had the pleasure of distributing T-shirts while fostering new partnerships for community outreach initiatives. Our team was actively involved—setting up, organizing, and supporting one another. If you’re interested in partnering with T.I.M.E. Minded or want to collaborate on outreach efforts, please take note of the information in this video!
