![I woke up this morning, bright and early (12pm to be exact), and began to pack my bags for my trip back to my second home in Virginia. The past two weeks with family have been amazing, life giving to say the least, and full of some much needed rest (hence the waking up at noon),
On our way to the airport, I began to reflect on this wonderful time of rest but I also couldn’t help look forward to what is to come. Look, I have no idea what lies ahead exactly. But I was brought back to this one thing.
“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father WHO IS IN SECRET. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” [Matthew 6v6 ESV]
Jesus says this to teach his disciples not to be like the Pharisees who seek God’s favor through outward performance. Now, you may be thinking, “What does this have to do with looking forward to what is to come?” My response to this is, “EVERYTHING!”
Because in the secret place (the place of rest) is where we become aware of our greatest reward, which is His presence, and where we learn to live our public lives; our lives outside of rest.
Like a child who spends nine months being developed in the safety of his mothers womb to then be brought into the world and continuously nurtured by his mother, that his life would be sustained. In the same way, when we come to truly KNOW Jesus in the secret place we are developed, not for the purpose of remaining in secret, but to be brought forth into the world, nurtured and sustained by our Heavenly Father, that we may have life and life to the full. Eternal life.
“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” [John 17v3 ESV]
This is why I look forward to what is to come. Because my God is there that I may get to KNOW Him more.
