I’ve dusted off the old script, updated a few jokes, and Black Nerd is headed back to Dragon Con!

This Friday, we’ve got an incredible cast coming together for a special reading of my love letter to Dragon Con—at Dragon Con itself!

It’ll be my first time back at the Con in years, and I honestly can’t think of a better way to make my return.

The short version is that we’re excited to announce that we’ll be taking over the Dynamic space starting October 1, with a number of big projects connected to the new venue.
The longer version is that this project is particularly meaningful to me. When I founded United Atlanta Improv, our first major project was bringing together Atlanta’s major improv theatres for one big show. It featured The Basement Theatre, Village Theatre, Highwire, Automatic, Dad’s Garage, Whole World and Laughing Matters. It remains one of the proudest moments of my career.
At the same time, it’s bittersweet to look back and realize that only two of those theatres are still operating at the same level they were when we started. In my 20+ years in Atlanta improv, I’ve watched roughly 10 major improv groups and theatres close or cease operating in the way they once did.
That’s why the opportunity to help keep this venue alive felt so important. Everything won’t stay exactly the same, and there will certainly be changes, but our goal is to preserve this space as a home for the broader improv community—not just for the next year, but for years to come. by @joncarrjr

It's our birthday, and we'll sell stuff if we want to!

The Dad's Garage 2026-2027 season is an ambitious remix of some of our most beloved (and notorious) scripted works - to the point that we're not totally sure you'll recognize them in their latest and greatest form 'cause they're gonna blow your mind. We're putting our entire Dad's Ga-back into this, so we promise that you don't want to miss any of it.

A season package guarantees you seats (that you get to lock in before anyone else!) to our biggest shows of the year (the spectacles!) for a reduced price on the night of your choosing, including:

Invasion: Christmas Carol - Nobody, ever, has been able to predict what we'll do with A Christmas Carol on a nightly basis (yes, we know a handful of you have been able to guess the invader, but you can't say you'd know exactly how they'd choose to wreck the show.) New invaders, new goose hijinks, and new ways to turn the Dickensian classic on its head!

Black Nerd - Avery Sharpe-Steele returns as Marcus in this newer, edgier, and even more sincere dive into the experience of being Black and a nerd in a time before "Blerd" was a named subculture.

Red: Filthy Flippin' Fairytales - This one defies explanation. Imagine: Dad's Garage does Cirque du Soleil with parkour and a rock band onstage for a jukebox musical. You're headed in the right direction.

See ya at the party tonight!

What was new in improvland here at the theatre this past season? Well, we hope you didn't want us to tell you in alphabetical order, because marketing decided to list the new formats out chronologically (or something close to it.)

Our birthday celebration has almost begun. See you at the theatre this weekend, July 23- 25, as we send off season 30 and crack open season 31!

Did you know a lot of casual Dad's Garage fans tend to forget that we do scripted work here? We guess it's true what they say: perception doesn't always equal reality. We do a whole $#!+load of scripted work, and we sure did a whole lot of it this season in particular.

Our birthday celebration lasts from July 23-25, and the Friday, July 24 birhday showcase event highlights our scripted productions from this year as well as give you a lil' taste of the scripted works to come in season 31!
