Koh Phi Phi 🇹🇭 2026 vs 2014

Traveling back to this iconic island for the first time since my backpacker days brought back so many different memories and feelings of nostalgia.

I had some of my favorite nights on Koh Phi Phi 12 years ago, and even stayed up all night dancing and swimming with bioluminescent plankton in Maya Bay (the idyllic film location of the movie The Beach) — which I just recently learned you are no longer able to swim in at all anymore.

They actually had fully closed down Maya Bay for tourism for years to help the marine ecosystem to recover — so I was just happy I was able to take a day trip back here and it was just as beautiful as I remembered 😍

While Koh Phi Phi has definitely become more developed since I last visited with a McDonalds, Burger King, and even a Taco Bell — it still has this wonderful charm that makes it worth visiting for a few days of day trips, scuba diving, and beach parties 💃

I wasn’t even planning on heading bsck there this trip, but I was having the absolute best time in Thailand I knew I had to change my flight and spend some time island hopping.

Phuket Villa Architectural Digest 😍💙

So when I landed at Phuket airport I didn’t even have a hotel booked, lol. I just used the wifi and ended up finding a nice spot 15 minutes from the airport to kick off this Thailand trip.

I spent 3 nights up in a quiet beach area called Naithon, and while it’s quite sleepy — it was just what I wanted and needed.

While flying my drone from the beach, I went around this coastline and discovered this stunning villa perched on the hill and found it be such an amazing aerial photography subject.

I tried looking it up on various vacation rental sites but couldn’t find it, so I am guessing this is some millionaire’s dream vacation house. Hey, if you own this villa and see this post — invite me over sometime? OK, thanks.

Got a favorite among the carousel? LMK.

Also — prepare for tons of Thailand content coming, as I’ve SO MUCH to share. Khop khun khrap 🇹🇭❤️

“My friends call me Outdoor Dave” 🌲🏕️🏔️

Okay, no they don’t — but they did during this one single weekend when @ross_dross_4_loss & @ariwillgo took me away to the Olympic Peninsula for a weekend of hiking, camping, and PNW exploring.

During the “Summer of D-Bone” in 2025 when I lived with Chris & Ari for 3 months, we always had plans to take me on my first overnight backapcking trip somewhere in Washington but sadly never made it happen - so we made sure that we would not make that same mistake twice.

It was one of the highlights of my summer, and am so grateful for them to show me the ropes (quite literally as we did some rope climbing to explore the coastline we beach camped at)

Definitely looking forward to transform into Outdoor Dave more often 🌲

I’ve been meaning to post some of these photos for a long time, but better late than never.

Burning Man 2026 through my lens 🔥 )’( 📸

It sure has taken me long enough to share these, but here’s a carousel of my favorite photos I took this year.

My 7th Journey out to Black Rock City was definitely the perfect reminder why it’s my favorite place in the world, and how much these experiences I have out there and incredible community mean to me in my life.

I feel like the last few burns I’ve left saying I need to take a year off, but after leaving this burn I was immediately thinking that I will absolutely be returning in 2027 💃🔥

While the dust storms were wild the first few days, and we had another night 1 night of rain (that thankfully dried up pretty quickly) — it was such an unforgettable week and this relatively last-minute burns ended up being one of my favorites.

Huge shoutout to my renegade camp mates (Yes, And?) for making this burn so ridiculously fun. We crushed it 🫶🏻

I always go into Burning Man with the intention of taking more photos, but dealing with the intense weather and some technical difficulties I ended up not taking as many as I had hoped on my Canon besides a few sunset journeys and burn night — but hope you enjoy the slideshow 🔥

Let me know some of your favorites and if you want any sent to your phone to print out or use as a wallpaper — will be happy to send your way!

Until next year 🔥🧡

Another Incredible Man Burn Night Spectacle 🔥 )’( 🔥

While I didn’t have the best lens with me for this burn as I left most of my photography equipment back in Bali — I’m still happy with the shots I was able to get during the firework show and burn night.

I’ve got lots more stories and some more photos coming soon 🔥

🔥 BURNING MAN ROLL CALL🔥 )’(

Who’s all going this year? Where are you camping? Let me know!

This entire year I’ve been kinda planning on taking this year off from my annual pilgrimage to the Black Rock City — but I just can’t seem to stay away 🔥 I think I just have RV guilt, as the only reason I bought the RV was for Burning Man, and it’s my civic responsibility to take it there every year while I own it 😁

This will be my 7th year at Burning Man, but this one feels a bit different as the majority of my best friends who I typically go to the burn with are skipping it (which I don’t blame them after last year’s chaos). But I know that just creates more immediacy and look forward to just going with the flow a lot more this year.

I’ve just now begun the RV prep work but am feeling ready to get back to dusty hugs, dancefloor boogies, and sunrise shenanigans.

Here’s a random collection of photos from previous burns, and look forward to adding some more to the collection this year 📸🔥 by @jonesaroundtheworld

🌲🎶🏔️ APOG 2026 💃🪩🫶🏻

For my 4th year in a row I journeyed into woods for a weekend of dancing, laughing, and frolicking with so many of my favorite people and fellow “grassholes” at @anypatchofgrass

I flew all the way back to Seattle from Bali to attend, and it was absolutely the right decision because it truly is my favorite weekend of the year. Not only is it an unforgettably magical experience, it’s also a massive reunion for me as I get to catch up with dozens of friends I don’t see too often since moving back abroad.

For a small festival with only around 1200 people, APOG’s production is beyond remarkable. Wandering through the LED forest, exploring the stages and art installations, and mingling with friends (both old and new) in this special community is something I’ll never take for granted.

I am so thankful for the entire APOG team who spend so much time making this such an intimate and unique festival. Special shoutout to the @de.wannawanga_art crew and DJ’s for going above and beyond this year — you all absolutely crushed it 🎶

I typically unplug at APOG and don’t focus on photography, but I’m glad I brought my camera out for a few hours to capture some photos for my APOG family, the epic @hydef set, and just a few shots of the colorful woods.

Thanks to everyone who made my 4th APOG so wild, weird, and wonderful. Love you all ❤️ by @jonesaroundtheworld

BDAY DIVING 🤿📸🪸🐠🦈

For my birthday this year, all I really wanted was to scuba dive a lot & test out my new Canon R5 @ikelite underwater housing I bought a few months back on Black Friday.

So I packed up everything in my scooter and drove 3 hours up to Northwest Bali for 3 days/nights of diving in Pemuteran Bay & Menjangan Island.

I had relatively low expectations as I hadn’t heard too much about the diving up there and my last scuba trip was to the diving mecca of Raja Ampat, but I was pleasantly surprised by how stunning all my 7 dives were (6 day dives and 1 night dive).

It was an absolutely solid birthday and was feeling the love from all over the world from friends and family. Thanks so much to everyone for your comments, messages, and calls 🫶🏻💙

I’ve got hundreds of photos and videos to go through and share, but here are my favorite photos from my first trip with new camera. Would love for you take a peak through them and give any feedback as my underwater photography obsession just continues to grow and am already planning on my next scuba getaway.

Thanks to both @abyss_ocean_world & @diveconceptsbali for being amazing dive centers and showing me an incredible time on my bday trip!

What’s your favorite shot 1-20? I’m always a sucker for Nemo 😍

Birthday reflections 🎂3️⃣7️⃣🚀

Looking back through my year to prepare this post gave me so much serotonin 🥰 So many incredible memories to cherish, people I love, and places and festivals I can’t wait to experience again.

While this year has also been quite challenging, dealing with life’s various curveballs, I feel like I’ve made some really positive strides in many aspects of life — and I can’t wait to see what opportunities arise in the coming year.

I didn’t find the energy to do a recap of 2025, so I’ll just use my birthday as an excuse to recap my 36th year.

Some highlights include:
• Countless Bali adventures
• A 10-day bucket-list liveaboard in Raja Ampat
• Skydiving over Rottnest Island in Western Australia
• Playing tour guide around Bali with the one and only @ariwillgo
• APOG shenanigans — the best weekend ever in the PNW
• Spending three months in Seattle staying with @ariwillgo & @ross_dross_4_loss for an unforgettable “Summer of D-Bone”
• Returning to Burning Man for my sixth time and celebrating the life of one of my best friends, Dunny
• Falling in love and feeling at home with my Bali routine & Villa Soul
• Attending Wonderfruit Festival in Thailand (easily one of my new favorite festivals)
• Spending Christmas & NYE with friends and family in California and Seattle

I’m not in a big party headspace right now, so I decided to drive up to Northwest Bali for a little solo scuba-dive bday getaway (to test out my new camera scuba housing), and it’s been just what I wanted and needed 🤿

Thanks to everyone for all the birthday wishes ❤️ by @jonesaroundtheworld

Everyone knows the first stop in Thailand has GOT to be a 7-Eleven toastie… it’s basically immigration 🥪😜
Still don’t understand how the rest of the world hasn’t caught on, but a fresh $2 toastie at 7-11 is one of the many reasons Thailand is elite.
Street pad thai comes next of course!

Can’t wait for Wonderfruit Festival this weekend with my bestie 🍓 stay tuned for one of the most epic festivals in the world!

David “Ketut” Anderson 🇮🇩🌴🌺

To follow up with my reel from yesterday, here’s a photo dump of my favorite shots from our day at @samsaralivingmuseum ! It was an absolute pleasure visiting this unique destination, and would definitely recommend it to all Bali travel addicts looking to get off the beaten path.

What’s your favorite shot 1-20? I had 40+ shots to choose and it was tough to narrow down 📸

Looking to get off the beaten path on your next trip to Bali? Add the Samsara Living Museum to your Bali bucket list for an incredible cultural and gastronomic experience you’ll absolutely love 🇮🇩❤️

Located in a remote village in East Bali, this hidden gem offers a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indonesian culture and rural communities — especially through learning all about the 15 key life ceremonies, from pregnancy to funeral. It was truly fascinating, especially now that I’m fortunate to call Bali my second home 🫶🏻

You’ll also get to enjoy an immersive culinary experience and participate hands-on as you learn about local cuisine — from making health tonics to preparing a delicious feast and sampling their homemade Samsara Arak. It’s such a fun and meaningful way to spend a few hours.

This was definitely a highlight from my recent trip with @wonderfulindonesia to “Go Beyond Ordinary.” I think it’s incredibly important to explore lesser-known destinations when traveling — especially in Bali, where so many people stick to the main hubs like Uluwatu, Canggu/Seminyak, and Ubud (all incredible, but there’s so much more to discover).

This would be the perfect activity to do while you’re staying in East Bali, and I’d suggest booking a night stay in the nearby Sidemen area for lush jungle vibes and iconic volcano views.

I have tons of photos to share soon. Huge thanks to everyone at @samsaralivingmuseum for an incredible day — I’ll definitely be back!
