"When your faith is greater than your fear, you know you're ready."

That message from ESPN's @tgreene34 stayed with me throughout my second NABJ Convention. This experience reminded me to trust God, step outside my comfort zone, and CONFIDENTLY embrace every opportunity. NABJ allowed me to connect with inspiring professionals, strengthen relationships, and continue growing as a sports journalist. I'm leaving more focused, more confident, and ready for what's next.

One thing I'II always remember: COMPARISON is the THIEF of joy! Stay true to who YOU are and trust your own journey!

Working behind the scenes with the First Take production team showed me just how much hard work goes into every second you see on TV. From setup to showtime — it’s all about teamwork, effort, and excellence. Blessed for the experience and grateful to be part of it! 🙏🏾🎬 #ESPN #FirstTake #BehindTheScenes #Dedication
Big shoutout to Kelton Robinson (@uncle_don_son) for the opportunity and for looking out — truly appreciate it! 🙌🏾

For those of you who don’t know my story—basketball has been my first love for as long as I can remember. After graduating high school, I took a gap year chasing my dream. I played prep ball that whole year, searching for the right school to call home. Things didn’t go the way I planned, but God had a bigger plan.

I started my freshman year at Oakwood University majoring in broadcast journalism while redshirting for the basketball team. Early in the semester, I injured my ankle and was out for 4 weeks. That was one of the hardest stretches I’ve faced—being sidelined not only took me off the court but shook me mentally. Basketball had always been my outlet, my peace, and my identity. Without it, I battled frustration, loneliness, and the creeping doubt that maybe my dream was slipping away.

When I got healthy, I tried to keep pushing, but something felt different. Towards the end of the semester, I decided not to return in the spring and instead head to Arizona to train, hoping to reignite my passion. But during those two weeks in Arizona, I realized something—my heart for the game wasn’t the same. I prayed. I stayed in my Word. I asked God over and over to make His direction for my life clear.

And He did.

One day before Oakwood’s spring semester began, I was on a flight back to Alabama—not for basketball this time, but to pursue journalism. That semester, I got to showcase my skills through ASN. It wasn’t the way I once imagined being around the game, but it brought me joy in a whole new way.

And through it all, one person kept pushing me—Dalitso. All semester he kept telling me about NABJ, insisting I needed to be there. I can honestly say Dalitso has been more than just a friend; he’s been a motivator, an encourager, and someone who has helped me see bigger possibilities for myself.

Now, being here at NABJ this week has been a blessing beyond what I could’ve imagined. I’ve made connections I never dreamed of, gained lifelong friendships, met mentors I can learn from, and left with renewed motivation to grow in my craft.

God’s plan will always be greater than ours. Truly blessed. 🙏🏾 by @jonn2real
