I honesty don’t think it’s about the journey or the destination. I think it’s about the people you take with you. I happen to have the best one out there❤️

Isn’t it curios? How could I be totally unaware of someone’s existence one day, and because of one moment, one chance encounter, have a what used to be a stranger quickly become my best friend?

Isn’t it curious how her needs changed, and then became mine.

How her smile and laugh instantly became my favorite.

And how significantly her admiration affects me.

I think I know how it happened, and I’m not complaining about any of it. @kiersten.vincent_ ❤️ by @jonn_385

I experienced a tea tasting at West China Tea in Austin and it completely changed how I think about tea.

I used to assume the difference between teas was mostly the leaf itself, green vs. black vs. white. Turns out that’s such a small part of it.

The same plant can turn into wildly different teas depending on how it’s processed, and even things like altitude, weather, and the exact day it was picked change the chemistry of the leaf before it ever gets touched.

High-altitude, slow-growing leaves develop more complex flavor compounds because the plant is working harder to survive. Rainy season versus dry season changes it. Even which leaves on the plant get picked — a single bud versus a bud with two leaves — changes the sweetness and bitterness.

My server knew all of this cold, and he talked about it like it actually mattered, not just as trivia. As if every step in a tea’s life, down to the smallest variable, leaves a mark on what ends up in your cup.

It made me realize how much intention is baked into something I used to just drink without thinking. Tea isn’t simple at all. It’s basically a record of everything that happened to it before it got here. And the final product is a time capsule to the exact time the leaf left its mother.

Grateful for an afternoon that made me slow down and actually pay attention to what I was tasting. by @jonn_385

It is all too often I find myself inside, wrapped up in my own busyness, when I notice another sun has set.

Tonight I did not miss the sunset. And tomorrow night I think I will try I catch it too.
