Interloc is thrilled to present a solo exhibition of work by Baltimore-based artist Jonna McKone. Please join us to celebrate with a reception Saturday, August 1, 4-7pm.

In As Sunlight, McKone explores representations of the land and our relationship to it. The selection of works for this exhibition brings together camera-less works made on color analog photo paper alongside gathered aerial photography and landscape images: pictures made in gardens, at a remote biological field station on an island in Maine, in western North Carolina where McKone taught, and at a research facility for flower pigments in the Netherlands. These strands of material processes and representations of place reflect McKone’s interest in perception and visibility, and ongoing work to develop photographic processes that allow the earth itself to create direct traces on light sensitive materials.

As Sunlight will be on view through October 9.

I'm excited to share some images from my show, As Sunlight, @_interloc_. Photos are so much better in person --please visit if you find yourself in midcoast, Maine (which is one of my favorite places anywhere).

This body of work includes groupings of landscape photos shot on medium format film combined with aerial images gathered from radio transmissions, and unique chromogenic prints made in forested areas of Maryland in total darkness. These strands of material processes and representations of place reflect my interest in perception and visibility and photographic processes that allow the earth itself to create direct traces on light sensitive materials.

I developed the c-prints @fullcirclefineart, framed by friends @phramebaltimore, exhibition photos by artist @_kategreene_. Many thanks to artists, friends and colleagues who came for studio visits and all my friends who support and challenge me to keep making. by @jonnamckone

TO USE A MOUNTAIN is coming to theaters in NYC Aug 21-27 @dctvny Firehouse Cinema.

Against the impassive logic of government analysis and archives, the film presents a people’s history of resistance and stewardship through a visceral journey across the landscapes, ecologies, and personal histories of the candidate sites for a sacrificial nuclear dumping ground.

In the end, one site was chosen, abutting the western edge of the Nevada Test Site, on the unceded lands of the Western Shoshone. After decades of stalwart resistance, the project was suspended, and to this day no permanent solution has been devised for America’s 90,000 tons of high-level nuclear waste.

Artist Jonna McKone is a filmmaker, photographer and media artist whose work explores land, memory and the layered histories held within landscapes.
This work is part of a series of land and water studies created through alternative photographic processes where light, chemistry and materials gathered from the site itself interact directly on the paper. The resulting chemigrams blur the line between map, landscape and abstraction and examine the traces and histories embedded within place.

April & May 2025 - my birthday hang at Current with a beautiful banner by Juliet & deliciously hunky cakes, hanging with Alex and Letha, meeting flori, filming in Paris for Art21 with Neil Beloufa and Julien Cruezet, Cimetière du Père-Lachaise, the Redford Center retreat in Telluride where I convinced everyone to run for their lives for free down jackets, hiking in the mountains with Jess, filming in Hong Kong with Ho Tzu Nyen with an amazing crew ❤️, my partner coming along on a filming trip for the first time ever. by @jonnamckone

Bridge club continued on with an emphasis on sports
Somehow my High school friends converged in Savannah, Georgia.
The Tallest Dwarf premiered @sxsw and @kentuckaluck was the best festival buddy at a pretty overwhelming fest!!
