Last January @bdcnyc asked if I could sub for @its_jlyn on a Monday. This January, we were dancing in class EVERY Monday.

Here are clips of some of my favorite combos we’ve learned at the end of class. All of these were taught with roughly 40 minutes left in class. Choreography is not necessarily the main objective of my Beginner Classes, but ending in unison connects us all. I appreciate EVERY SINGLE STUDENT that has been showing up to these classes ~ but y’all already know that 🤙🤙

Yesterday, my mother was laid to rest.

One of my earliest memories is of my brother and I sitting in the backseat of my mom’s station wagon, as she asked Kindergarten Jonny how he feels about joining an “All Boys Hip Hop Class from the studio down the road” @jldancecenter this upcoming fall. From there on, she was in the aisles for every show, handing out programs to audience members, and letting everyone know who her sons (and her daughter, of course) were in the lineup. Depending on the recital, she would don a bag with her children’s dance photos. She could sense art was my calling card before I could sense it myself. From the moment everyone finishes reading this and beyond, she will remain to be a reason “why” in this world. by @jonny_cohen

MONDAYS at Broadway Dance Center

My class has two aspects of emphasis: learning (or relearning) the reasons “why” we love to dance as well as using foundational hip hop movement to connect to music and choreography.

Above all, I want to make sure my students are feeling comfortable to express themselves, and are learning something new in the process! by @jonny_cohen
