From East London nights to the printing press in Altenburg, eastern Germany.

A look behind the scenes at Druckerei zu Altenburg @dza.druck where THE EAST LONDON YEARS is — after almost four years in the making — finally being brought to life on paper.

The book is a dazzling portrait of a lost scene — the drag parties, queer raves and living installations of East London between 2005 and 2015. It is a vital document and celebration of a time before gentrification, social media and political turmoil went into overdrive — a world of art, love, community and pleasure, and a homage to glamour and trash.

As co-creator of the legendary GutterSlut, Ralf Obergfell was right in the thick of it, documenting the people and nights that defined the era — from Trailer Trash, Gay Bingo and @horse_meat_disco at @thenycdownlow to the Dalston back alley that became home to his queer family, his studio experiments and The Pale Blue Door.

With contributions from @jonnywoouk, @tonyhornecker_ and @gilbertandgeorgecentre, alongside more than 50 personal accounts from people who were part of the scene, the book brings together photographs and memories from this extraordinary period.

And now, seeing all of those years, photographs and memories move from archive to printed sheets — and finally become a physical book — feels incredibly special to me.

Specialised in high-quality art book production, DZA has produced books for artists from around the world, including @wolfgang_tillmans, who also appears in THE EAST LONDON YEARS. We’re very happy to see the book now taking shape here too.

Today I officially launch my new business as a celebrant for funerals and weddings. Both as myself Jonny Wooster and of course in a look as Jonny Woo. I've officiated 3 weddings now as well as popping up in all sorts of roles at many others and am taking a new step into officiating at funerals. My approach for all ceremonies is to help you tell the story of someone you've lost or of a love that you've found. No idea too silly or abstract, no detail or anecdote too insignificant. I'd like to help you make your ceremony special and unique to you and your loved ones.

I trained with The Academy of Professional Celebrants @the_academy_of_celebrants

The website is LIVE, link in bio, so I'm ready to go. So if you need me to help make your special day be everything you dreamed of or need help getting through maybe the toughest moments by celebrating someone lost, please say hello.

Please excuse grammatical errors - I'll always be human and never AI.

Last chance to catch me solo @bistrotheque with Queen Of Clubs 25th September and 9th October.

Usual shenanagins, perf art, draggage, sing-song-a-longs, nudity, glo-sticks and of course spoken word.

Then that's it for solo - Jonny Woo!

22 years at the wonderful Bistrotheque. She's got a lot of stuff to choose from.

Come join for really silly nonsense.

Ralf Obergfel - The East London Years.

His gorgeous new book celebrating the wild 00's in Shoreditch, Hackney and Dalston and sometimes beyond. It was a gorgeous carefree time of unconscious community building and copious drug taking. We partied and fell over and then went to another party. For all those who were there a wonderful momento of our coming of age and for those who weren't a colourful extensive deep dive into a slice of East London's historic queer culture.

Featuring amongst many
@johnsizzle @perqx @djhannahholland @dsuperstore @ma_butcher @lucy_fizz @_matt_tucker_ @beau_mo @colinsos @a_man_to_pet @lovejacoblove @tonyhornecker_
and so so many more...

Wonderful photos by @ralfobergfell with a curation of words and commentaries from myself and others who can't remember everything but can kind of piece together how wonderful it was !

BUY HERE - ITS SO WORTH IT

A marvellous work of pure love from Ralf. ❤️

Baring all in my two final 'solo' shows @bistrotheque this year.

Queen of Clubs is back and I'm chucking everything at it. If you love a Woo Show, come, if you've never seen a Woo show come - this is my last solo outing for a good while. Sing-a-long, dance-a-long, chat-a-long and hell - strip-a-long. I've a few glo-sticks and fireworks still to get through. You know!!!!

Fun for all the choosen family in the lovely Cockatoo cocktail and cabaret room.
