Deal is finally closed so I feel like I can celebrate and post the most FAQ.

1 - What’s “against” mean?
Silly Hollywood lingo just means the bigger number comes when the movie actually gets made.

2 - How do you know Pete?
Three years ago this very week, our pal introduced us at a party. Our first convo was how we both hoped to write the next “all-time Christmas classic.” We were wearing this.

3 - When/how did you think of the idea?
One sleepless night next to this cute pup, I thought of a magical way into a movie with a heartwarming ending. But it wasn’t until May of 2024 that Pete cracked the personal story that makes the movie truly so special.

4 - How many times did you guys practice the pitch? We DID the pitch 25 official times for producers and studios. Practiced 100+ times. We’d run it right before every mtng so it was fresh. We had the pitch beats memorized and tried to make it feel like a funny/heartwarming campfire story.

5 - Did you wear matching corduroy pants?
Absolutely.

6 - What’d you eat in between?
We did 12 studio pitches in a week all over the city. An Armenian place in Burbank that was the highlight.

7/8- What made this ideas special?
With pitching, we have to give execs as much ammunition as possible to sell it to their boss without us there. This pitch stood out bc they could go upstairs and say “I just heard a timeless Christmas movie that made me laugh for 20 minutes and then cry at the end.” That speaks volumes.

9 - How integral were reps?
They were total sharks. Afterwards, they needed to chill out with a cute, 7-foot-tall snowman.

10/11 - How’d you celebrate?
Khaia and I were in New York the day we chose Apple. Jesse and Emily Cole, the brilliant minds behind Savannah Bananas, treated us to lunch and our friend Darren treated us to dinner. It was perfect because they’re three people I admire for betting big on themselves.

12/13/14 - How cool was that announcement?
Getting FaceTimes from people that have cheered for me forever was amazing. Second only to seeing how happy Khaia was for me.

Ask any other q’s about pitching. Excited for y’all to see Foster.

Happy holidays!

A year worth smiling about. Got married. Bought a house. Sold pitches with my friends. Wrote scripts with my heroes. Had a movie premiere. Taught at UCLA film school. Shot season 1 of a podcast. Made new friends. Celebrated in Italy with old friends. Traveled the world. by @jonomatt

ABOVE THE LINE is out now!!

A heist comedy about a group of Hollywood hopefuls who band together on Christmas Eve to rob a producer that once screwed them all over.

Buy or rent on all the things! Apple, Amazon, etc.

Can’t begin to describe how wonderful this movie and these people are. Thank you @jeffrey.scott.collins for never taking your hand off the boulder as we pushed this amazing project up the hill for over a decade. Thank you for rallying an incredible team that believed in what we wrote. Thank you to the producers, Ian, @kemmafilby, and @walkerbarnes_ for your tenacity in honing this story. Thank you to our EP’s who bet on a movie about underdogs. Thank you to all the crew who gave us 21 straight nights of your brilliance. Thank you to our cast who brought heart, pathos, and laughs to every scene.

We’re all so excited to finally share this with you! by @jonomatt

Camp Homiemoon. Finito.

It’s impossible to express how special this month was. Instead of a one-day wedding, we went to a villa in Italy and got quality time with friends for four weeks. Thank you Khaia for creating and planning it.

Thank you to everyone from Non Basta Pasta, Tans > Tuxes, Grubby little meatballs, and Khaiatelle al ParmiJono for joining us. You left behind work, kids, and important things to share laughs, great food, and epic memories. Thank you to the two birthday girls who celebrated their days with us. Thank you to our parents who gave us “Mike & Deb’s Bar” and “CatMatt’s Cooking Class.” Thank you to everyone who sent us congratulations and love.

This was a truly unforgettable. taken in Ostuni, Puglia, Italy by @jonomatt
