For most of my life, I was pretty good at being seen.
And then, about two years ago, I disappeared.
I spent those two years writing. Thousands of pages. Trying to make sense of a lifetime of experiences, memories, and contradictions.
Now I’m turning the camera back on.
Not because I have something to sell.
Because I have something to say.

Before Ed Hardy became a joke, it was genius.
I know because I was there.
In 2004, I found Christian Audigier standing in a hallway at a New York fashion trade show while buyers walked right past him. I stopped. I saw something extraordinary. And I bet every dollar I had left to spend on it.
What happened next changed my life.
Twenty-two years later, I still think about that hallway. And the man who saw something the rest of America wasn’t ready to see.
My latest article in The Room.

Get in the Mix. If you shopped with us, you heard it a thousand times. It was more than a catchphrase. It was an invitation into a world Rene and I built. Fifteen stores. Eight brands. Welcome Home Wednesdays. Pink bags.
Then we walked away from all of it, and almost nobody knows why.
This is the essay I’ve been circling for a long time. Madoff taking my first store. Building the next one when everyone said no. The two-second look across a conference table that ended a decade. What leaving cost me, including my own name. And what Rene and I actually took with us when we walked out.

Thousands of moms. One college town. Every hair dryer running at once.
Somewhere at the Wisconsin power company, someone’s staring at the monitors, wondering what the hell just happened.
Just one of the moments from our last Parents Weekend in Madison.

Winnie has figured it out. Find a sunny spot, lie down, and let everybody else worry about the bullshit.

I spent most of my life walking into rooms already wondering if I belonged. Presenting credentials. Performing. Selling some version of myself.

I’ve watched my kids walk into rooms like it never occurred to them to ask.

If you went to Wisco, or your kids did, you know. ❤️🤍
State Street. The KK. Brats. The Terrace. Camp Randall. JUMP AROUND.
Three kids. One university. Twelve college years.
And this was our last Wisconsin Parents Weekend.
The perfect October weather. The USC game. The frat tailgate. Will Ferrel. And a weekend I’ll never forget.
I wrote about all of it, including some stories I probably shouldn’t tell.
Plus, I’ve included a ton of photos and videos.

I was really good at building businesses. Brands, stores, products, ideas. I knew how to sell just about anything.
What I didn’t know was how to stop.
Somewhere along the way, the thing I was best at became the thing that was breaking me.
And somehow, after all of it, I found my way back to writing.
I tell the whole story in my latest Substack article, “I Spent Two Years Hiding. Now I Can’t Stop Talking.”
Read it at the link in my bio.

Ranked #25 in the country. Best Parents’ Weekend ever. And one last Jump Around at Camp Randall. Doesn’t get much better than this.
