Typical Finnish breakfast with smoked cheese, salami, ham, cold smoked salmon, tomato, fresh and pickled cucumber, pepper, egg, kaviar spread, lettuce etc. rye bread and coffee.

I''m looking after my elderly friend's cat while they are in the summer cottage and they spoil me with the food while I spoil the cat with his food and cuddles.

I'm a bit different Finn as I prefer my coffee black, Italian and made in the moka pot or percolator or Santos coffee maker. And I only drink two cups of coffee while most people in Finland drink 5 cups per day.

Joona Braf / Elon muruja / 2023 / sanomalehti, akryyli, murskattu kananmunankuori, lehtikulta, valokuvatuloste, kuivattu maissin lehti, puuvillanyöri, koralli

Kädestä etsitään elämänviivoja ja merkkejä kohtalosta. Tämän teoksen lehtileikkeet kuvaavat erilaisten aikojen kaaria: kuolemaa, elämää, syntymää ja kenties aikaa siitä eteen päin. Kuolemasta syntyy elämää, vanhan ajan tilalle syntyy uusi.

Muna on syntymän ja elämän symboli. Syökö musta aukko kaiken elämän?

Keväällä 2020 elimme lockdownin aikaa. Söin joka aamu kaksi munaa. Säästin kaikki munankuoret. Niistä murskasin jauhoa joka nyt näkyy teoksessa. Yksin ajan mitta sekin.

Kesällä 2022 istutin popkornia, joista kasvoi hieno puska. Hoidosta huolimatta se kuoli. Se oli sen kesän ajan mitta.

Elämänlangan päässä on Australiasta löytämäni koralli. Oleskeluni Australiassa oli yksi elämäni suurimmista seikkailuista. Usein muistelen sitä ihmeellistä aikaa. Siellä yksi ystävyyssuhteeni kuoli, mutta tilalle syntyi monia uusia.

Valokuvassa on isoäitini sisaruksineen melkein sata vuotta sitten. Teoksen nimi ”Elon muruja” tulee seinäkankaan tekstistä ”Muruja on elon onni, suurin osa suruja”.

Kun teos oli jo valmis ilmestyi Helsingin Sanomissa seuraavana päivänä juttu 90-vuotta täyttävästä sedästäni. Tuntui luonnolliselta lisätä leikkeet sedästäni, valokuvan isoäidin keskimmäisestä pojasta, jo valmiiseen teokseen. Lehtijutussa näkyi setäni kotona 1980-luvulla kuolleen isoäitini kello, ajan mittaaja. Nukuin mummin luona ollessani kellon kanssa samassa huoneessa. Se löi tasatunnein aina aikaa mittaavan määrän.

Another school day starting in 1990. I'm not too happy about it. Besides that too small silver women's swimming suit I wore as a shirt was uncomfortable enough. But style comes first.

Some lovely winter colours for UFF-vintage store in the windows I made in November 2006, 16 years ago.

From this window I bought for myself couple of scarves, which I still have, but it's a pity I didn't buy that Lahti MM knitted sweater. It's a sweater for 1978 Nordic World Ski Championships held in a Finnish City of Lahti. In the championships Finland came second only to Soviet Union with 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals totalling 9 medals when Soviet Union won 11, East Germany 6 and Sweden 2.

So I was absolutely delighted last winter when I was finally able to get that sweater for myself.

International Mother's Day is in May. How do you like these moms I introduced in Stockmann department windows in May 2018? The lady with the green dress is pregnant. However it doesn't really show.
