As Nomadic Bloemenhof / Jardin aux Fleurs (16/05 - 01/06) approaches, participating artist Joost Elschot talks about how pigeons and artists share a lot of similarities, how this led to his project for our upcoming exhibition, and his impressions of our beloved Bloemenhof square.

Joost Elschot (b. 1985, Netherlands) lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium. After a failed study and a period working as a car mechanic in Ghana, West Africa, he studied visual arts in Utrecht. In his artistic practice he works with drawing, sculpture, installation, sound, performance and interventions. Elschot’s work departs from daydreaming and existential reflections, blending personal memories with imagined settings.

𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒎

For the fourth time, Nomadic returns to our beloved Bloemenhofplein / Place du Jardin aux Fleurs from the 16th of May up until the 1st of June. Teaming up with artists, musicians, cultural organisations, as well as with local initiatives, merchants and neighbours, we are looking forward to celebrate arts and public space.

Three artists engage with the public space and its surroundings, creating a site-specific exhibition throughout the neighbourhood’s streets, squares, facades, and inside its bars, shops and institutes:

Amber Meulenijzer, Joost Elschot and Veerle Melis.

Join us Friday the 16th of May as we festively open our 2025 edition of Nomadic Bloemenhof / Jardin aux Fleurs together. Full program online next week.

Nomadic is a biannual social art project which brings together artists, musicians, and cultural organisations with residents, merchants, social initiatives, and institutions around a specific neighborhood.
