Was a pleasure to celebrate love and get silly with @kyle_tman and @kendallstrabala this weekend, even got a little time-traveling in…thanks for creating an environment where we all got to spend some time with our inner child and let them goof off to their heart’s content.

The quiet. The awe. The stars. The shock of a cold lake dip. The conversations that take place over hours, not minutes. The feeling of being somewhere that very few people ever go.

Those all get me, every time. But it’s the simplicity that gets more and more appealing. Walk. Find water. Set up camp. Fall asleep. Brew coffee. Walk some more.

Achievable goals in a world that feels increasingly complex. More please.

Pleasure to be out there with just @maritamcveigh, who climbed her first 14er and lived to tell about it.

Met the cute Aussie neighbor. Asked her out. Our fourth date was a week-long epic that went from backpacking in the Sierras to a cabin on the river in Nevada City to a wedding in Brooklyn. And that’s when I knew. Fully body yes, no notes, LZGO.

So here’s to a year of loving you @maritamcveigh. Thanks for unknowingly committing to planning the next trip before getting home from the first…can’t wait to just keep doing this together for the rest of our lives. Face cheers 😘 by @jordanpchiu

I’ve been down to Baja more times than I can count, but showing one of my favorite places to my favorite human, well it doesn’t get much better than that.

Our plans changed last minute due to a seasonal closure so we were winging it the whole time, which meant most of it was new for me too. Soaked in a mineral hot spring resort, got @maritamcveigh her first proper fish taco, did some wine tasting and accidentally had lunch at a Michelin-starred restaurant, found a centuries-old horse ranch deep in the mountains and rode up to the top of the range, discovered a couple of epic beach campsites and even managed to resist taking home an adorable little puppy. On second thought should have probably brought the puppy home, but we’re not quite ready yet…maybe next trip ;)

Oh and I just finished building out a new rig (more on this later) so it was the perfect shakedown trip. We were so comfortable and had everything we needed to set up wherever we wanted and be off grid for at least another couple days. Not bad for a simple, month-long build 🤓.

If I’m being honest, it kinda made me want to just keep heading south…but either way we’ll definitely be back, and soon. 🌞🇲🇽🌊

Last night I said goodbye to Clover, my most-constant companion and forever adventure pup. We took her to the beach for One Last Best Day - fed her steak, helped her splash in the waves and even let her have a long-awaited chocolate chip cookie. She got lots of pets and cuddles and came home tired and calm to meet the vet, drifting off into her well-earned forever nap.

It’s hard to sum up what Clover meant to me: like any great dog she was loyal and loving, but over 14 years she saw me through so many chapters, so many heartbreaks and transitions and dark nights, as well as so many adventures and peak life moments. I shaped my life around her (i.e. driving down to Patagonia so she could come), and in turn she shaped me, forcing me to grow up and giving me someone outside of myself to think about on the daily.

I adopted her on my way to brunch in 2012 from the side of the road. She was tiny and scared and wouldn’t walk on a leash. I knew nothing about dogs, much less raising them, but we developed a connection that frequently had strangers stopping us in the street asking how I trained her. Spoiler: I didn’t, she was just so intuitive with me she knew what I wanted and would do anything to get it right. I used to ride my bike through Venice traffic, Clo running directly next to me without a leash, my trust in her so complete that even when I had to stop or swerve she would never leave my side.

She came with me to 16 countries and on almost every trip: backpacking, mountain biking, backcountry skiing, river rafting, rock climbing (if it got too steep for her she would sit across my shoulders while I used both my hands). She was the heater at the bottom of my sleeping bag, the eater of every pizza crust, the faithful alarm clock that got me up on even the toughest days.

The world seems oddly quiet without her, even tho she rarely made a sound. After 14 years of having a little shadow, I keep checking to see where she is…I’m sure I will for a while. Ultimately, she did everything I ever asked and so it was my final duty to let her go, even when I wanted her to stay.

She was the best lil weirdo and I’m so, so grateful.

Bikepacking Catalina has become something of an annual trip. Not because I don’t like going new places — it’s just that good. Get on a boat, feel like you’re a million miles away, punch up some legit little climbs and get rewarded with incredible ocean views, fly down the descents, take a dunk in the ocean, drink a cold beer and repeat. It’s a full-size adventure in a pint-sized 3-day package. Add some good friends, put the phone on airplane mode and it’s a recipe for a tired-legs, happy heart kind of weekend. See ya again next year!
