Three small paintings from the studio in London this summerAfter months inside large white paintings, I wanted to come back to London with something tighter. A surface to fill instead of empty out. What happens when a figure stops holding the space, and starts disappearing into it?A vase, a branch, a dog, a face. All competing for the same inch of linen, each one a pentimento of the last, until I can’t quite tell what’s underneath and what’s on top anymore. Is that still a self-portrait? a body? Or just what’s left of one, buried under everything I kept adding?He’s harder to find in these. Sometimes there’s two of him, and neither one is finished. Sometimes he’s just a shadow shaped like a dog. But I guess it’s painted by the same hand, same nervous line.Still in London for a few more weeks. ArtEN and Tiderip Gallery at Assembly present the work of Jordan Rubio.Jordan Rubio is a painter based in London. Working with saturated colour, fragmented figuration, and layered symbolism, he creates compositions that examine the tension between idealism and systemic collapse.Interested in the threshold where an image loses its stability, he deliberately fractures familiar subjects when they become too legible.
