Shortly after we’ve tried everything, we’ll punch holes through the walls so cold air can pass through, just two weeks before the first frost of winter, though we won’t know it then. I think the oldest mistake of twenty-nine is believing we can translate experience, paint it onto a future that, by its very nature, can never be held between our fingers like that handful of sand on a beach I described with absolute certainty in my very first poem. I only hope that on the happiest days of my life it rains, that from the ceilings come leaks, that our shoes go splash-splash through the trembling footsteps of the dance of living. Now that the singer-songwriters are dying and the filmmakers show off, spreading their wings like a white swan in the face of danger: I crouch down. From down here I have always seen everything more clearly, and you give me perspective from above. I weave the bedsheets diagonally, recite again and again the mantras of my mother, which she inherited from hers, and hers from hers, all the way back to the days of trams, knitted dresses, and boxes packed with fish only waves of the sea. “Humankind is the only ANIMAL capable of stumbling twice over the same stone.” And every time you let me fall, you catch me too. Forgive me if sometimes I pass on to you questions of wondering existence that we were never born to answer. Vivid dreams grow more vivid, red, blue and white brick houses slip past the taxi windows, the reflections in your glasses, the wheels of rented bicycles. May the saddest days of our lives come beneath a radiant, irritating sun the kind that distracts us from natural dangers, that makes the tears of life glitter, that burns away the worries which today chase you Night has fallen on the streets of a town I still don’t know. Food labels carry interesting scriptures. A sea breeze slips between the curtains. From the corner of my eye, I listen to you reading in bed. And every time you let me fall, you catch me too. And this is the only certainty of loving. by @jordiesmo
Nicholas — a short theatre play written and directed by 🙋🏻‍♂️. We closed out 2025 with a sold-out private showing in London. Over 150 people joined us across the weekend in Brixton for an intimate poetic rant weaving together almost-autobiographical stories of exes, romantic exile, and London’s bridges. I hope to bring this one back to the stage soon. ☺️ Starring: @hamza.s419 @leothechen Produced by: @klevisok Lighting Design: @thehenrygill Drawings: @osh._ms Live Photography: @luke.odonovan 🌉♥️ by @jordiesmo
