This isn’t about me or my degree

In 1999, my grandpa, John Fozard, left a thriving church in Illinois to become the president of Mid-America Christian University. What he didn’t know until after moving and accepting the job was that MACU was $14.5 million in debt. The school was on the brink of shutting down.

But instead of giving up, he chose obedience that didn’t make sense. He took a step of blind faith, trusting that God had a bigger plan. And as crazy as it sounds, Yahweh provided.

However, there is blind faith—faith and knowledge that GOD always has something far greater than anything we have in mind. And we must TRUST Him in that & not try to take it upon ourselves to create the story. The Lord’s mission throughout all of time is to partner with His creation. However, we try to take it upon ourselves to make it “work” when we don’t even have the ability to do it. You look at Adam and Eve, and from the beginning, they wanted control. You examine more & find out that if Abraham and Sarah would have just trusted the Lord, there wouldn’t have been a conflict between sons. Then you look at the nation of Israel trying to have kings of their own—and how broken, literally in two, the nation became because of the unwillingness to give God control over His own people.

Then Jesus enters the scene—from a tiny town no one cared about. He gave up everything, made Himself fully vulnerable, LITERALLY, and loved us before we ever chose Him. That kind of trust? That kind of obedience? It changes things.

26 years ago, my grandpa had two options: close the school, or trust God to do something only He could.

All of this to say—I’m pretty sure 26 years ago, my grandpa never had the intent that he would hand his granddaughter her bachelor’s degree. I’m almost certain his mind could only think of keeping the school afloat until it HAD to shut down—giving all the employees one last check, telling the students that there would be no university to return to & then hopefully selling the school and land so the debt could be paid off

But John Fozard decided to partner with the Creator.

This isn’t Legacy.
This isn’t my story, it’s Yahweh’s.

His Mercy - it is a beautiful thing when you look back, put your hand over your heart, tears streaming down your face and you get the privilege to say, “thank you Lord for everything that I don’t deserve”

This is where I get sappy :)

It is repeated told & shown in the Word that the Lord is faithful, no matter how “we” react to His faithfulness. For example, Israel leaves the Lord, realizes their lives are in shambles, comes back to the Him, they start to get comfortable or fearful and then the cycle repeats itself.

The funny thing is that He is still faithful. Somehow we think it’s crazy to do what He asks, when He asks, because we don’t believe He will be faithful when we step into it & let go of our fear (I am literally preaching to myself rn). So what happens if we are faithful to what the Lord is calling us to do instead of going back to our “comfort” or hiding in fear?

John Wesley, C.S. Lewis, John Bunyan, Susann Wesley, & Charles Wesley would have been able to tell you! If these faithful followers of the Lord had not stepped into what God was calling them to do, oh goodness…Christianity would be a lot different.

If Susanna & her husband wouldn’t have raised her sons, John and Charles, in a strong christian household, those men wouldn’t have had the knowledge of the gospel. They had the willingness to share to thousands that had never heard the gospel because they weren’t “allowed” into the church due to their social status. They made Jesus known whether from the pulpit, outside of the church, starting the idea of “small groups”, writing hundreds of hymns that we still sing today, etc. Their faithfulness led to the common man to know the love of God

If John Bunyan hadn’t written Pilgrims Progress, many people today would not have a fictional and visual representation of what it’s like to walk with the Lord, ranking second to the Bible, with the most amount of copies sold for a book. It my favorite book of all time!

If C.S. Lewis didn’t continue to pursue his relationship with the Lord, I believe WW 2 would have looked a little different. He reminded the people where their hope came from during his radio broadcasts & gave an amazing amount of literature over his lifetime that exemplifies Yahweh, not to mention the Chronicles of Narnia or Screwtape Letters for that matter.
