my hbcu story looks like faith, risk, and believing in something before the world caught on. this was bigger than gymnastics… this was purpose. forever grateful i got to be part of something that made history 🤍

No matter what happens next, these young women already made history. They inspired so many girls and showed the next generation what is possible. 🫶🏾 We are so proud of every athlete who hit the mat, the bars, the beam, and everything in between. See how these young women changed the game in #Flipped, now on our YouTube channel. #HBweCU #FiskGymnastics by @jordytrinity

One conversation can change the world. Well, it definitely changed mine. Growing up, we are always taught that closed mouths do not get fed, to speak your mind, and to stand on what you believe in. I have always believed in HBCU gymnastics, but I can still remember the conversation I had with my uncle that made it all feel possible. What started as a simple conversation turned into something that would ultimately change the trajectory of my life. From that moment on, everything became real.

To be part of something that helped bring that vision to life is something I will carry with me forever. But what people do not always see is everything that comes with building something that has never been done before. The constant changes, the uncertainty, and the moments where things were not as stable as they may have seemed from the outside. I have watched this program evolve in real time. I have experienced the highs, and I have had to grow through the parts that were not always easy to understand.

While it is shocking to see how long it took for this opportunity to exist, it is just as shocking to see how quickly an essential part of it is coming to an end. Still, through everything, I remained grounded in why I started. I am beyond grateful to God for carrying me through every high and every low, to my family for being my foundation, to my friends and teammates for walking this journey beside me, and to every coach who has poured into me and helped shape me into the person I am today.

This was always bigger than me. It was about opening doors, creating space, and being part of something that would outlive me. And no matter how this chapter closes, nothing can take away the fact that I was part of the foundation.

Xoxo,
