One thing fighting taught me…Your mind will always try to protect you from discomfort.Growth begins the moment you stop negotiating with that voice. That’s a lesson I’ve carried far beyond fighting. by @jorgebrittobjj

TEN YEARS. ONE COMMUNITY. THANK YOU.What a journey it's been. NextGen just wrapped its 10th Year Edition at Maple Leaf Gardens, and as we sit with the memories from July 11th, our hearts are so full.To the athletes, every single one of you who stepped on the mats, competed with heart, and gave this sport everything you had: this tournament exists because of you. Win, lose, or somewhere in between, you are what makes NextGen special. To the coaches and gyms who trained, prepared, and believed in your athletes long before they ever walked into that arena: your work behind the scenes is the foundation this whole event is built on. We see you, and we're endlessly grateful. To our sponsors, Stonebelt, GymDesk, Popeyes Toronto, Guard Players, and Hyper Acai, thank you for believing in this sport and this community, and for helping us bring this vision to life year after year. This event simply doesn't happen without your support. To Jorge, whose vision, passion, and relentless dedication built NextGen from the ground up: ten years later, this is your legacy, and we are so proud to be part of it.And to the entire NextGen team, the staff, the people behind every camera, every scoreboard, every small detail that made this weekend run smoothly, thank you for pouring your hearts into this.Ten years down. A community stronger than ever. And the best is still ahead of us.Here's to the next ten. by @jorgebrittobjj

Happy belated birthday to my professor, Saulo Ribeiro. @sapaupulopo One of the lessons you taught me over 20 years ago still shapes the way I approach life.In 2003, my good friend Rodrigo Pinheiro and I competed at the Rio de Janeiro State Championships. Back then, we practically lived at the academy. Jiu-jitsu was our dream, and every day was about finding a way to keep chasing it. Sensei Saulo was one of the people who believed in us the most, supporting us with tournament registrations and giving us opportunities when we needed them.At that time, the Rio State Championship was essentially the qualifier for the IBJJF World Championship. We gave everything we had. I fought eight tough matches. Rodrigo did the same. In the end, we both finished 3rd in our weight division and 2nd in the absolute division. We were happy. We thought we had done great. After the tournament, Sensei gave us a ride home. He smiled and said, “I’m going to play a song for you guys.”He put on Nelly’s #1.Then, right when the lyrics said, “Two is not a winner Three nobody remember ….”he stopped the music. He looked at us and said something I’ll never forget:“Never be satisfied when you know you can do better.”At the time, it felt harsh. Today, I understand it was one of the greatest gifts he could have given us.He wasn’t teaching us to ignore progress or be ungrateful. He was teaching us to respect our potential. To never confuse comfort with excellence. To always believe we were capable of more. That lesson went far beyond competition. It’s how I try to coach, run my business, raise my kids, and live my life. You won’t always finish first. But your mindset should always be to prepare, work, and strive for the best possible outcome. That’s not arrogance—it’s commitment to becoming the best version of yourself.Happy belated birthday, Sensei.Thank you for believing in us long before we believed in ourselves, and for all the lessons that continue to guide me to this day. by @jorgebrittobjj

Today I had the privilege of interviewing the legendary Jorge Britto. The leader of leaders. His résumé is incredible—multiple world titles and success in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts. But, what has always stood out was his humility, kindness, and the way he leads by example. He's built Jiu-Jitsu for Life from the ground up, creating not just champions, but a culture that inspires people to become better every day.And yes... he confirmed what I already knew—armbars are the best. 😂 I also got a history lesson on Rickson during the drive home. (Thanks dad and google) The greatest legacy isn't measured by medals. It's measured by the people you inspire. by @jorgebrittobjj

Ten years in, and Jorge took a moment to speak from the heart. To everyone who came out and helped us reach full capacity at Maple Leaf Gardens, thank you. This tournament, this community, this moment... none of it happens without you. ❤️We're proud of how far jiu jitsu has grown across Canada, and even more excited for where it's headed. This is just the beginning of the next ten years for NextGen.Here's to a decade of growth, and to the ones still ahead of us. by @jorgebrittobjj
