Milky Way Magic 🪄

With the summer around the corner in the northern hemisphere, the Milky Way will become more apparent. Yesterday I quickly had a look on my Star Walk app and was actually surprised how well it lined up with the coast line. After a few shots this was my best attempt and I’m really happy with the photo. The theory is to have a moving city below with sharp stars above, and when this combo comes out like this I’m absolutely thrilled. Here we see the Milky Way nice and bright above the Spanish coast near Valencia.

All in a morning ☕️

While flying back from Belgrade the sun was rising behind us, and the moon setting in front of us. However the sun never rose and the moon never set, so for nearly two hours it was beautiful views all around. Golden hour meets blue hour but in the sky. 🥰

Embraer E175 ✈️

This little Embraer 175 is one of the planes that we get to fly at KLM Cityhopper, together with the E190 and E295. With this one being the smallest of the bunch, and in all honesty the nicest one to fly. Have you ever flown with KLM Cityhopper on the Embraer?

I took this photo when the arriving crew taxied in towards the stand while we were waiting in the crew bus for the plane to arrive at the stand in Stuttgart. I thought this angle was pretty fantastic and luckily the best camera is the one you have on you, which was my iPhone.

Lopik Transmitting Tower 🇳🇱

Built in 1961 and rising 366 meters, the Lopik mast has long been a key landmark for broadcasting and navigation in the Netherlands.

Every December it’s hard to miss — decorated with around 1,000 Christmas lights, making it clearly visible even from altitude.
Its height and obstacle environment are the reason why the MSA (minimum safe altitude) in the southeast sector of Schiphol is higher, despite the country being mostly flat.

A good reminder that MSAs are driven by obstacles, not geography. ✈️

Also shot on ISO 12800, what’s become of the noise reduction, crazy.

Magic Green 🪄

One of those world wonders that unfortunately not everybody gets to witness. I remember my first time catching a glimpse, while flying to Tokyo as a passenger. At that time I wasn’t even sure if it was ‘the green magic’ but it still excited me, however limited it was. Once I started flying for @klm I started seeing it more and more, for example when heading to the west coast of the US and nearly for sure when flying back from Japan.

Have you ever seen it yourself? The camera does amplify, but still it was extremely visible when I captured this myself from the flight deck.

All shot in my @sony.benelux ZV-E1 actually, such a little beast. In combo with the 20mm f1.8 and 35mm f1.4.

Colorful 🎨

Another beautiful morning over the Netherlands with a stunning sunrise. The view never gets boring and I always love it when I can do a flight which has the potential of a beautiful sunrise. The color of the sky is absolutely surreal when you fly at an altitude, besides the color, there are no obstructions you can enjoy it to the fullest.

I made this shot a few days ago when flying back from Bilbao. I used my Sony A7CII with one of my favorite lenses the 24-70 F2.8.

Alpine Crown 👑

A peak that needs no introduction. The Matterhorn standing proud above the ridgelines, its silhouette cutting through layers of cloud like a compass point in the Alps. Flying north towards Florence, it feels less like passing over a mountain and more like crossing paths with a monument, the crown jewel of the Alps, timeless from every angle.

Golden hour over London 🟠✨

The Thames winds like a silver thread through the heart of the city, carving its timeless path beneath scattered clouds. From this altitude, the skyline stands proud — Shard piercing the sky, the Eye catching the last light, and a soft haze bathing the city in warm amber tones.

One of those moments where a view just makes you pause.

North Sea tapestry —

Rottumerplaat, Schiermonnikoog & Ameland stitched together by summer sun and sandbanks. Nature drawing in real time.

Been a while that I’ve posted something, but there’s something about this view I couldn’t keep for myself. Also on a personal note, life’s good, kids are growing up fast and work is tumbling on. Hoping to be in the left seat somewhere in November on the Embraer. Let me know what you are up to!?

Touch of gold.

Golden light spills over scattered clouds, turning the sky into a blend of soft shadows and warm hues. The way the sun catches just a part of the clouds makes the view even more stunning. Moments like this remind us that the sky never looks the same twice and that I have one hell of a view! Also fun to finally have a beautiful sky shot in the Netherlands 🇳🇱
