the last day in the studio.. w/ @a78759 I came here, sat with a room full of paint, books, questions, and time. And somewhere between that and the chaos and devotion, bodies of work emerged. But now, I’m leaving this space with the knowledge that people can be fucked up individuals, places are precious, and things are temporary. 🤔 …but I give thanks to this higher source that watches over and protects. On to the next chapter. ✨ by @josefisaiahk
Right now, my work is a practice of learning how to stay present - with self, with uncertainty and with transformation. These slides are a couple of ideations of experimental works, and just work in general I’ve been working on this semester. I’ve been interested in materials, especially since last semester… the other day, I thought of primarily working with jeans and burlap. This combination of texture and color fascinates me. * If you know where or if you have any jeans, burlap or other interesting textile materials, donate to me please, Thank you. 🙏🏿 🦊 * I know I can buy these materials but also, I want to receive them or go on an adventure to pick it up. by @josefisaiahk

….I like the idea of playing with materials, still laying out my landscapes. The practice is still the same, the process is just getting more intentional. For instance, I’m now relying heavily on the search for particular materials that “feel” or “act” a certain way with each other. Color, form, and this material, all work the same.. or like a sort of “dance”, rather than a battle. I’ll say more on my site, but… I don’t know, what would you say? by @josefisaiahk
…been working on this idea of painting as sculpture. Or painting with material… this is the very beginning of that process, and one piece out of that conversation. …when people ask what my work is about, most of the time now, it’s the argument between the materials. Like this one, the burlap wants to be rough, the map wants to tell you where you are, the gold wants to be precious. My job is just to referee the match. This one’s close to finishing though. Maybe another couple layers… by @josefisaiahk
…I painted a mural in someones house or apartment once, awhile ago… but I didn’t have my style yet. So, it don’t count. Here’s to my first mural, at @marylandinstitutecollegeofart too! haha It’s in the fitness center, if you want to check it out. by @josefisaiahk
