Thank you so much @filmconsortiumsd San Diego Film Awards for recognizing Emerald City with 8 nominations and 2 wins — David and I are incredibly honored to receive Best Original Screenplay and Best Director respectively. We are proud of our exceptional cast (Havon, Alan, Arasha, Rob) and crew (on set with Zach, Matthew, Cass, Patrick, Cammie, Jose, Niall, Alex, and in post with Melissa, Arbob, John, our foley artists, and our composers Dylan & Catherine), many of whom whose work was nominated as well. Thank you! taken in San Diego, California by @josefsteiff

Meet Emerald City's lead actors, both of whom are nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role @filmconsortiumsd San Diego Film Awards this Sunday night at 7pm (Pacific) at the Parq Nightclub and streaming on the PBS app!

If you feel like being bicoastal, you can see the film tomorrow (Saturday) in Brattleboro, Vermont, at 4pm (Eastern) as part of @cineslam in the Latchis Theatre!

Both Havon and Alan have been busy since shooting Emerald City, and we are so proud that they are a part of our film. They give "raw and standout performances" (Short Films Matter, 5 Star Review) and are incredible to work with.

Havon Baraka was born & raised in "mini-Vegas" as he calls it aka Atlantic City, New Jersey, and the youngest of four from his mother, Christina Frommer. Havon has been writing & acting since age 5 and even studied 'Playwriting & Screenwriting' at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) at a young age, Havon dove into acting, writing, stand up, and directing as a means of expression and hasn't looked back.

Alan Vazquez is a Mexican-American actor born in Tijuana, BC, and raised in San Diego, CA. An aspiring filmmaker since he was a kid, he went on to graduate from Vancouver Film School when he was 21 years old. His passion for acting started years later when he attended an acting class with the intention of learning to direct actors better. He has been working as an actor ever since.

Emerald City is nominated for Best Short Film at the San Diego Film Awards (June 29, 7pm, Parq Nightclub).

Meet our supporting cast Arasha Lalani and Rob Riordan!

Arasha Lalani is an American-Indian actress who grew up in Texas and graduated from Emerson College where she designed an interdisciplinary major in
Performing Arts, Comedic Arts, Broadcast Journalism, and Film & Television. After moving to LA, she secured a spot as a cast member on Youtube's Smosh and landed roles in the film Under the Burning Sun and the television miniseries Little India. In 2024 she launched her podcast,
Spitball, a comfort show available on all platforms.

Rob Riordan is a professional actor, singer, and dancer who has performed in theaters and venues across the US and internationally. His film work includes an award-winning turn in the feature film The Surprise Visit, with additional films including The Rebels of PT-218 and Concessions. He recently wrote and directed his first short film, Nova Ovum, which has been in some of the same film festivals as Emerald City.
