BRICKS | MI JUVENTUD HOUSE

Last year, the city of Cuenca, Ecuador — a UNESCO World Heritage city — honored us with the “Fray Jose Maria Vargas” award for our rehabilitation work on the house “Mi Juventud.” The materiality of the project was crucial, as it allowed us to tell the story of the interventions. The handcrafted trapezoidal brick, although a new element, blended perfectly with the architecture being preserved and served as a bridge to the new architecture.

El año pasado nos condecoró la ciudad de Cuenca, Ecuador — ciudad patrimonio por la UNESCO — con la presea “Fray Jose Maria Vargas” por nuestro trabajo de rehabilitación en la casa “Mi Juventud”, la materialidad del proyecto fue crucial ya que nos permitió contar la historia de las intervenciones. El ladrillo trapezoidal fabricado de forma artesanal nos permitió, a pesar de ser un elemento nuevo, que se integre perfectamente con la arquitectura a rehabilitar y construir el vínculo con la arquitectura nueva.

Por alguna razón me gusta explorar puntos geográficos peculiares. Esta vez tuve la oportunidad de estar en el punto en donde empieza USA en su límite sureste. Solo diré que es muy intrigante, impactante y de cierta manera triste vivir la dualidad de dos realidades tan opuestas en un 15 minutos.
