I officially am an AT Sobo Thur Hiker. 2198.4 miles, 520,000 ft of elevation, 123 days. I did 72% of my days alone. I want to thank @unicorn_explores @scottbenerofe, a NoBo named wizard and a NoBo named Pay it forward. If it weren’t for those conversations I probably wouldn’t have hiked alone and gotten the amazing experience I did. Emotions are at an all time high, and I’m in pure awe of my experience. Enjoy some of my favorite pictures from the trip by @joseontheat
With just two days left on trail, I’ve been doing lots of reflecting on my whole trip. I want to thank all those people who have aided me in a million different ways while hiking on the trail. From small words of encouragement to buying me dinners, I could not have done it without all the wonderful people both on the trail and those supporting me from a distance. I am truly grateful for every single one of them. Those pictured are just a few I managed to get a picture with. by @joseontheat
Officially got out of the Smokey Mountains yesterday and I couldn’t have been happier with my experience. Perfect weather, great people, and even better views. Sad this journey is coming to an end, but this too shall pass. Springer Mountain, I’m coming for you. by @joseontheat
With 344 more miles and 13 days to go, I am exhausted. However, check out some of the peaks that I climbed and I think you will see, no matter the exhaustion I’m in love with Tennessee and North Carolina. No place I’d rather be. Thank you Roan Highlands. Also check out the last one to see where my highest point since New Hampshire was. 6180 ft and a pair of stairs by @joseontheat
With less than 500 miles to go, it starting to hit me that I’m close to the finish. Got to see some ponies in the Grayson Highlands which was awesome. Days have felt easier again mentally and I just cruise along most of the day now. Tomorrow I’ll be in Tennessee and I couldn’t be more excited! Finish date: Oct 10th by @joseontheat
The last two weeks have been the hardest two weeks on the AT mentally. Got super lonely, the heat was exhausting, and I was getting sick of hiking. After taking 3 zero days and a Nero in a week, I found some company to hike with and have fallen back in love with the trail. We aren’t done yet, got a little over 600 miles to go! Just trying to finish at this point, no longer care how long it takes me! by @joseontheat
This trail is crazy. I had this picture taken of me over 1000 miles ago, but didn’t receive the picture until 3 days ago. I ran into “Sideways” the lady in this picture in VA and she gave it to me while reminding me of something I said to her that day. “Everyday I wake up, I can’t believe I’m out here.” Little did she know that statement would stick in my head for the next few days It has gotten quite lonely out here with no familiar faces day in day out, and I’ve really struggled with that. She helped reminded me how lucky I am to be out here with my own words! The loneliness won’t be forever, it’ll end. Time to grind out the last 1/3 of the trail. Not done yet ladies and gents! We are making it to Georgia! by @joseontheat
1335.6 miles done. 859.5 miles left. The Shenandoahs were a beautiful treat as where their waysides, where you could get blackberry milkshakes that were to die for. Did my first night hike, and got the privilege to meet lots of cool people once more! by @joseontheat
It’s time I shared the reason I am hiking the Appalachian Trail. I’m doing it for my mom. My mom wanted to hike the trail in 2021, but unfortunately after getting COVID in March of 2020, her whole life did a 180. She went from running everyday and training for an ultramarathon to now, after over three years, only being able to hike occasionally throughout the week. My mom is a COVID long hauler, meaning she now experiences great fatigue on a daily basis due to contracting COVID. She had to cancel her Thru-Hike of the AT, and later I decided that I wanted to hike the AT for my mom as I also loved hiking and had been considering hiking the AT myself. She has always been my biggest supporter and doing this hike for her, seems minuscule in comparison for all she did for me. I love you Mom❤️ by @joseontheat
Officially over halfway done with the AT. Everyday I have less miles than I’ve already done! Staying positive is a necessity on this trail, challenges you in every way everyday. Virginia blues, may you not be true by @joseontheat
The fast few days have been quite interesting. Started having some tendonitis creep up on the outside of my shin and needed a hitch into town to resupply and find a place to lay low for the day. Long story short got a hitch from a local farmer and ended up staying on his farm with him and his family for a few days. My shin is feeling much better and im getting back on trail today. 1000 miles in we aren’t done yet. by @joseontheat
Almost 900 miles, 7 states down, 7 states to go. New York and New Jersey held some beautiful sites and lots of wildlife! Check out the porcupine in the video! by @joseontheat
