Brand identity work for Steorra (Olde English for β€˜Star’) and packaging for their range of hand-crafted, low-intervention wines; grown and produced in Kent.

Each wine’s name and label taps into Olde English mythology and star-lore; drawing on the way our ancestors once read the night sky.

Codex Manuscript -
I’ve recently been reflecting on my creative practice, and on the quiet barriers that have made it harder to pick up a pen and make images in the post-Covid era. The idea of creating my own codex has been whirling around my mind for nearly five years. Looking back through my feed, I noticed a familiar pattern: intense excitement, a burst of sharing, and then silence. At the time, this was my undiagnosed ADHD brain burning out, coupled with a constant urge to begin something new, all while holding down an intense full-time job.

For a long while, I felt like I was having an identity crisis, illustration and image making have followed me my entire life, and not creating something left a strange absence. A huge thank you to Myles @merexband for keeping me afloat with commissions through those quieter years.

I’m so much more happier now, and far less stressed in my day-to-day work, and that shift has opened the creative floodgates, I plan to ride it until the wheels come off.

Here’s a small mock-up of some pages I’ve been working on, featuring a solitary monk and a few pesky demons. The codex will be an amalgamation of mysticism, cosmology, herbology, bestiary, and alchemy β€” a strange world slowly unfolding page by page.

I have lots of new work to share soon, including commissions, and I’m excited to keep creating into 2026.

Thank you for sticking with me. taken in Brighton, England, UK by @joseph_laplaca

A huge thank you to @thefolkarchive for featuring my work in the latest edition of Folk Review - A Folk Bestiary, make sure you grab yourself a copy.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Wildman (Woodwose), feared as a savage outsider, yet admired for their raw natural purity.

Visions Of Heaven & Hell - Inspired by St. Hildegard of Bingen, a 12th century Benedictine nun who in her lifetime experienced intense waking visions of divine light, these visions revealed the plan for creation, humanities relationship with god, and the structure of the cosmos which commanded her to structure her experiences in the Scivias (know the ways) these scriptures were accompanied by incredible artworks depicting her visions. Hildegard went on to found her own abbey, created her own language, and wrote one of the first musical plays.

Thanks for looking. taken in Brighton, England, UK by @joseph_laplaca
