I saw this guy tailing from across a back lake I drifted into and pushed over towards his waving tail, which flared up in the water like a kayak paddle. Trying to untangle my fly line which was now wrapped around my feet, I saw that I was closing in on him. I glanced to my left where he was feeding and didn’t see him anymore. I scanned the area a bit longer and saw him re-appear swimming 10ft away, parallel to my kayak. I flipped my crab fly directly in front of him and twitched it twice. He turned his head, b-lined towards it, and inhaled it. After about 30 min, I was able to get my hands on my first big ole’ ugly black drum. Definitely a fight to remember! Skinny water sight fishing at its finest.
