On Friday, a true spiritual father to me went on to his reward.

During Buster’s time in Alabama, Colima, New Mexico, and Texas, and more, he impacted people around the world. I remember being in Ukraine in 2015 and telling people that my pastor was George Russell from the U.S., and you would have thought I said I had been under the ministry of the Apostle Paul.

Buster’s race may be over, but his ministry continues today. I am a product of that ministry.

Buster, you taught me to value the power of the Holy Spirit and revival. You showed me firsthand how to stand by someone with a calling on their life, no matter what life throws at them. You walked me through the darkest season of my life, when others said I should step down from ministry.

You walked me through my vows with an incredible woman who was raised under your ministry. You dedicated my first two children to Jesus; today, they both love Jesus and serve in ministry. We traveled to revival services together. We ate the best food. We laughed together. We cried together. We experienced God’s power together.

You allowed me to share from your platform and to minister under your watch. The 11 years I served under you were some of the most formative years of my life—not only as a minister, but as a follower of Christ.

I remember you coming and sitting in my office, weeping after the loss of your grandchild. I remember watching you walk through the pain of losing a son. I remember watching you endure many trials. I watched you stay solid amid tremendous scrutiny from those who were critical of you. Through it all, you were a model of resilience.

G. Austin Russell, it was an honor to serve you. We always told you to write a book about all your adventures with God. I guess that book would have been incomplete, because so many of us became part of those adventures.
