Day 2 Recap 🎥🌍

From virtual conversations to in-person premieres, Day 2 of the Future of Film Showcase 2025 was a powerful celebration of representation, community, and creative resilience across every part of the industry.

💬 We kicked off with our DEIA in Casting Panel, co-presented by ACTRA Toronto followed by In the Casting Room, an intimate workshop where BIPOC actors Virtual Coffees, our Building Bridges: Empowering Indigenous Filmmakers panel, co-presented by the Indigenous Screen Office, and to close the night: the Toronto Premiere of @riendemalfilm (Nothing Wrong) at Paradise Theatre.

Samuel Plante’s moving feature, preceded by the short films HAIR! (dir. @1.800.talk2me.sara) and How To Bury Your Father (dir. @akeshodia), lit up the screen with raw emotion and creative force. The evening ended with a heartfelt Q&A, offering audiences a deep dive into the storytelling behind the films.

Day 2 brought the conversations and the craft — and we’re just getting started. ✨✨✨

Our film, Nothing Wrong (Rien de mal), is screening twice this week in the Toronto area!

First, we’re screening at the Oakville Film Festival @the_offa_ca
Wednesday June 18th 9:00PM
Film.ca Cinemas
Tickets: https://offa.ca/offa-2025/

Then, it’s our Toronto premiere at the Future of Film Showcase @futurefilmshow

A ton of great collaborators, artists, filmmakers, and friends worked on the film over many years.

It took all of them to go from words on a page to images, sounds, and emotions on a screen. And I’m very proud of all their work.

I’m still speechless from last night. What an incredible honour to see our film, Nothing Wrong (FR: Rien de mal), awarded the JDIFF Honorable Mention for feature films as well as the FIPRESCI award (The International Federation of Film Critics) @fipresci as they mark their 100th anniversary.

Thank you to everyone at the festival who screened the submitted films and helped in the selection process. And endless gratitude to the FIPRESCI jury for connecting with the story we are telling.

I cannot be more thankful for our collaborators, supporters, cast and crew over the years. What an amazing group of filmmakers. Thank you ❤️

Think movie making is glamorous? This is a big part of it too! Working alone on your laptop in a gym in the basement of a church, thinking - "do we have all the things so we can do all the things". The stuff E-Talk never shows you.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my grandmother: Victoria Kappari De Kaufmann – known as Denise Kaufmann to many – on May 6, 2023 at the age of 90. Denise was born in Huancayo, Peru in 1933. Her parents were Clementina and Joseph. Her sisters were Victoria, Lily, and Eva. She was a loving and caring wife to Dieter Kaufmann for almost 60 years. Her warmth, patience, and love will forever be remembered by her children – Etty, Janice, Jacques, and Alfred. Her sweetness will always be cherished by her grandchildren – Josh, Ayelet, Arie, Mauren, Adi, Victoria, Eva, David, Daniel, and Nicole. Stories of her life and joy will be shared with her great grandchildren – Aaron, Samuel, River, and Celeste.

Denise was a refined lady, always curious, an introspective thinker and surprisingly vivacious. When she wasn’t doting over everyone in the family, she loved sharing memories and reminiscing of life lived. Her stories, love, and warmth will live on in our hearts.
