Victor and I have hung out weekly for the past year or so as part of @bbbstoronto. He loves electric cars so this weekend was an extra special treat at the CNE: We got to check out and test drive a Vinfast VF8! Vic even tried his hand at some youtube style demo vids, and scored an awesome hat for his effort :)

Our dog Andy was put to rest on Monday 3/13, in bed with his mom & dad cradling him. He was 8.

The illness that took his life was sudden, shocking, and uncertain. We spent nine days in a vet ICU while a team worked around the clock to triage symptoms, causes, and possible resolutions. Ultimately it was beyond doubt that Andy couldn’t live day-to-day without intensive support. The decision to put him down was brutal, but clear.

Our time with Andy was cut bitterly short. He was 8, but only first adopted by Sara at 2; I only met him at 4, and only moved in with him at 7. This gave us enough time to bond, and uncover so many of the quirks & tics that make life with a pet such a joy — but not nearly enough time to reap and relish the fruits. I know Andy to manifest different personalities whether we’re in the kitchen, the living room, or the stairwell. I’ve developed a burgeoning library of songs I sing to him while we go on walks. I’d beam when he’d nestle between my legs and rest his chin in the crook of my knee. “Andy,” his legal name, became canonically short for “(h)Andsome,” which he was — he had a penchant for stopping foot traffic amidst comments like “wow that’s a cute dog.”

Most of all, Andy made profound eye contact. You could stare and he’d stare back indefinitely. These stretches were soothing, but became particularly gripping for that last week in the hospital while we were otherwise limited in how we could exchange our love & support. (Andy, while often a human and sometimes a bear and a goat, maintained limited comprehension of complex english.)

Thank you for your care, love, and support. Andy brought out the best in us. I hope you’ll hug your pets and loved ones tightly today. We’ll be grieving until someday when we won’t. by @joshpetersel
