Sikkim Travel Guide (Nov–Dec 2025)

1. Weather – 2–12°C; mornings & evenings cold, afternoons mild. Weather changes fast. Carry layers, gloves, warm jacket. Check AccuWeather before travel.

2. Roads – Best in Nov, foggy in Dec. Start early.

3. Clothes – Thermals, heavy jacket, gloves, beanie, good shoes, sunglasses.

4. Permits – Needed for Nathula, Tsomgo, Lachen, Lachung, Gurudongmar, Yumthang. Not needed for Gangtok, Pelling, Namchi, Ravangla. Carry Aadhar/Voter ID/Passport/Driving License + 2–4 passport photos. PAN card not accepted.

5. Transport – Pre-book cars or use shared cabs. Allow buffer for fog/delays.

6. Stay – Kanchenjunga-view stays preferred. Check heaters. Breakfast included saves cost.

7. Cherry Blossoms – Peak: late Oct–mid Nov. Best: Ranka, Pangthang, Temi, Upper Pelling. Rare in Dec.

8. Food & Health – Drink warm water. Try Thukpa, Phagshapa, Momos. Carry basic medicines.

9. Network & Cash – Good in East/West Sikkim, weak in North and Zuluk. Carry extra cash for North. ATMs mainly in Gangtok, Pelling, Namchi.

10. Budget Tips – Shared cabs, homestays with breakfast, group trips to North save money. Eat local.

11. Essentials & Eco – Extra socks, reusable bottle, energy bars, power bank. Keep surroundings clean, avoid plastics.

12. Photo & Reel Tips – Best light 6:30–9 AM. Drones are restricted in many areas.

13. Booking Tips – Nathula permits 1–2 days in advance. North Sikkim stays fill fast.

• Permits: You must get an Inner Line Permit (ILP) online before entering; foreigners need a PAP.

• Nearest Hub: Fly into Dibrugarh (Assam) or take a train to Tinsukia, then drive to Roing before heading up.

• The Drive: Expect an 8–10 hour mountain drive (around 235 km) from Roing via shared Tata Sumo or a high-clearance 4x4.

• Best Season: October to April offers clear skies and open roads; avoid peak monsoons due to frequent landslides.

• Fuel Up: Tank up fully at Roing, as fuel availability on the stretch to Anini can be unpredictable.

• Carry Cash: ATMs are extremely rare and frequently out of cash; digital UPI payments often fail due to low connectivity.

• Mobile Network: Airtel and BSNL have the best reception, but expect zero connectivity on the transit highways.

• Stays: Book local homestays in advance, as commercial hotels are practically non-existent.
