The 5 year old has been enjoying @luka.reads , which makes me very happy because her elder brother pretty much ignores the Chinese reading robot. She sits patiently at the table and can be absorbed listening to Luka read for a long time. The robot can read popular English books such as Julia Donaldson’s books so you don’t need to stock your bookshelf with Chinese books.

Spent more than a month in #singapore and we did the usual tourist things like visit the zoo and Sentosa. But the best days out were the ones spent doing local activities. If you ask the children, the best one was rollerblading at @ernsports. Fishing was also memorable at Pasir Ris, where 1 seabass and 2 snappers were caught and brought home for dinner.

My personal favourite? Not pictured - the kids spending hours frolicking in the pool with their friends and family. And me? Simple coffee shop meals with my besties, family and our never ending conversations.

What is better than going to the gym? Well, going to the gym with your friends of course!

We did our #ladderapp workouts together (Team Ascend and Team Ignite) while on holiday in Desaru, Malaysia. Even though it was a lazy restful resort holiday, we ended up moving quite a bit with our silly dance practices and our morning gym session.

Every year on our girls trip, we have a ritual: that is to learn a dance and dance it in coordinated outfits. This year, it’s 80s cantopop from 草蜢 / Cao Meng.

What do I miss the most about Singapore?
I get this question a lot. I spend one month every year back home and every year I am shocked by the pace of change in Singapore. Every year, I feel less Singaporean. Every year, I get more baffled by the new acronyms that I hear. This year, one of my friends talked about “UG” and it took a while for me to realise it stood for “uniformed groups.”

Every year I’m delighted @munchipancakes are still around. But ask me what I miss the most about #singapore and it’s always the people. My people.

Who knew that food could also be good for the soul? A peaceful Thai tea lunch today at @tinasteacompany in a beautiful Buddhist temple.

The UK has a lot of great free activities but sometimes a paid membership that you use frequently might be the best investment yet. Here are our top memberships as a family of 4:

1. Hampton Court Palace, Surrey
The palace has a fantastic playground called the Magic Garden, which is truly magical. They also have different festivals throughout the year, which keeps things fresh. We have been to the Easter bunny hunt, tulip festival, food festival, Halloween etc. This membership also allows you to visit the Tower of London for free.

2. Wonderlab at Science Museum, South Kensington
The Science Museum is free and the Wonderlab is a paid section of the museum that has a lot of interactive activities and science demonstrations/shows. We were so impressed that we upgraded to the annual membership on our first visit. Recommended for 7-14 years old but my 4 year old also had loads of fun.

3. Gym
This is purely for mummy. I have been going to the gym in the past year and it has done wonders for my physical and mental health. It has also evolved to become a hobby so I also save a lot of money by making good use of my membership. I try to go 3 times a week.

The younger one has started on her Chinese learning journey too at 4 years old. So far her language skills are better than her brother - she is able to switch from English and Mandarin depending on who is speaking to her but i definitely see the dominance of English since she started nursery in the local school.

Here she is learning the numbers and also the names of strokes.

It’s autumn and there is no better time to bring home some pumpkins and squash! Drove more than one hour to get to this pretty pumpkin farm in West Sussex. The entrance fee of £13.95 per person was quite a lot considering that we then still had to pay for the pumpkins themselves and there was no playground or play area inside for the kids. Nevertheless I bought some super yummy winter squash and they are now sitting happily in my tummy.

Food inflation continues to rise in the UK so what do we have to do around here to save some pennies? Instead of eating out, how about buying some rump from the supermarket and pairing it with some home made mashed potatoes for a dinner?
