Today I’m reminded that it’s a privilege to do this.
To wake up and create.
To touch the earth and turn it into something lasting.

Not just work
but purpose, process, and quiet joy. 🤍 by @joyclayworks

Last night was really cool 💫 thank you @material_shopart by @joyclayworks

This is one of my favorite pieces, the kind of work that you don’t even want to share or sell because it means something that you really can’t explain…
But at the end of the we need to share the meaning of the things we do we have to, this piece I worked on in a way to reconcile with the things that I decided to keep carrying 💫

I hope I explain this right, anyways English is not my first language so I’m doing my best by @joyclayworks

Andrea Cárdenas is a Mexican ceramic artist based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Through sculptural ceramics, her work explores memory, cultural identity, and belonging. With a background in architecture and interior design, she approaches clay as a medium for exploring form, materiality, and personal narrative.

Her practice draws on experiences of migration, motherhood, ancestral knowledge, and connection to place, creating works that bridge intimate stories with shared cultural experiences. Andrea currently works from her studio, Joy Clay Works.

Meet Andrea, learn more about her practice, and experience her work in person.

We look forward to seeing you!

Lo que mi abuela me regaló -
Or what my grandmother give to me…
This piece evolved from an earlier body of work exploring what we carry—guilt, shame, memory, hope, and the things we inherit without always realizing their weight or even if we want to keep carrying it

In this new iteration, flowers emerge from the body as symbols of transformation. What we carry does not simply disappear; it changes as we become aware of it. Some things remain heavy, while others become something we can recognize, question, and perhaps transform.

The work continues my exploration of the body as a place where memory, material, and experience meet.
