Another Year💛✨

Another year of becoming, and I honestly can’t do anything but thank God.

God has been so good to me. For the things I prayed for, the things I didn’t even know I needed, the doors He opened, the ones He closed, and the grace that carried me through every season.

Without God, I am nothing. Every blessing, every achievement, every new beginning, I know it is only by His grace. And for that, I am deeply, deeply grateful🤎

I’m also proud of the woman I’ve become. Softer, wiser, more intentional, more confident, and still becoming.

This past year taught me to stop waiting for the perfect moment and to create beautiful moments for myself. To celebrate myself. To choose joy. To trust the process and, most importantly, to trust God.

So today, I’m celebrating life, growth, grace, answered prayers and everything that is still to come.

Here’s to another year of walking in purpose, loving deeply, creating beautiful memories and becoming everything God has called me to be.

Happy birthday to me🥂✨

God, thank You for another year.
I’m so grateful.🤎💛🤍

1 year in the NHS: things I wish I knew sooner (Part 2)

01 — Flexible working
1. Flexible working arrangements may be possible.
Depending on your role and service needs, you may be able to request part-time hours, compressed hours or alternative working patterns.
02 — Family support
2. Check what family and special leave your trust offers.
Some employers have provisions for emergencies and caring responsibilities. Don’t assume the entitlement is identical across every trust.
03 — Internal opportunities
3. You may not need to leave your trust to change career direction.
Internal vacancies can help you explore another department or develop different skills, provided you meet the requirements.
04 — Transferable skills
4. Your NHS experience can open doors outside the NHS, too.
Administration, coordination, communication, data handling and operational experience can be valuable across other sectors.
05 — Career progression
5. Your first NHS role doesn’t have to be your final destination.
You can use your experience as a foundation for exploring other roles and career paths.
06 — Job titles
6. Your job title doesn’t tell your whole story.
Focus on your actual responsibilities, the systems you use and the skills you develop. These are useful when applying for your next role.
07 — Development
7. Sometimes, you have to advocate for your own development.
Ask about training, shadowing and development opportunities instead of waiting for someone to suggest them.
08 — Choosing your next role
8. A higher band isn’t automatically a better career move.
Consider the responsibilities, working pattern, development potential and whether the role aligns with your long-term goals.
09 — Stability
9. The NHS can offer valuable employment benefits, but understand your contract.
Depending on your eligibility and employment terms, benefits may include pension membership, annual leave and occupational sick pay. Job security and conditions aren’t identical for everyone.
10 — Your career is your responsibility, too
10. Don’t just focus on getting into the NHS. Think about what you want to build once you’re there.
Keep learning, build relevant skills and be by @joyeniola_

1 year in the NHS: 10 things nobody told me… (Part 1)

I’ve had 3 roles in a little over 1 year of working with the NHS and here’s what I’ve learned; The workplace realities, professional boundaries and lessons:

01 — Your manager matters
1. Your line manager can make or break your experience.
The same job can feel completely different depending on the leadership and support you receive.

02 — Workload
2. Being busy doesn’t mean you can do everything.
Learn to prioritise, communicate your capacity and ask which tasks need your attention first.

03 — Asking for help
3. Learn to ask for help before things escalate.
You don’t have to struggle in silence to prove you’re competent.

04 — Documentation
4. Documentation is more important than you think.
Keep accurate records, follow procedures and document important decisions appropriately.

05 — Colleagues
5. Your colleagues don’t all have to be your friends.
Be approachable, build good relationships and maintain professional boundaries.

06 — The working environment
6. The NHS is BUSY.
Learn to distinguish between a busy day, competing priorities and an unsafe workload. Escalate concerns through the right channels.

07 — Confidentiality
7. Confidentiality is everyone’s responsibility.
Be mindful of patient information, conversations, emails and the systems you access.

08 — Patient care
8. Even non-clinical roles affect patient care.
Appointments, communication, administration and coordination can all affect a patient’s experience.

09 — Workplace variation
9. Your experience can change completely from one department to another.
A ward, outpatient clinic, radiology department and corporate office can have very different working environments.

10 — Boundaries
10. Being a good employee doesn’t mean saying yes to everything.
Be willing to contribute, but know your responsibilities, capacity and when to escalate.

Part 2 will cover the benefits, opportunities and career lessons worth knowing.

If you’re already working in the NHS or hoping to join, I hope you find something useful here.🤎

Some may call it delusion.
Some may call it faith.
Some may call it speaking things into existence.

I call it a seed of faith.

Two months ago, during my birthday week, I showed you a brown work bag and shoes I bought for my new Job. Not because I had the job already, but because I was preparing for the woman who would.

I remember saying, “I’m going to use this as a point of contact for the job I’m praying for. When it happens, I’ll come back and share my testimony.”

Well… here I am.

Today, I carried that same bag, wore those same shoes, and walked into work on my first day.

Sometimes you have to pray for the miracle before you can see it. Sometimes you have to believe before you have the evidence. And sometimes, faith looks a little crazy to everyone else.

But God.

This is your reminder that the prayer you’re making today can become the testimony you share tomorrow.

Keep praying. Keep believing. Keep preparing for what you’ve asked God for.

Because God answers prayers. And when He does, you’ll look back and realise that even the little things were part of the story.
