sometimes you hear about a new way of walkin’.

such a gait revelation can be heard during episode 1132 of the Kreative Kontrol Yes Indeed podcast, because Jon Mckiel and Jay Crocker are here to discuss ‘Gold Horatio,’ how living in the same town has impacted their musical collaboration, why someone like Jon may possess the “Amherst strut,” how Jay is managing without regular “beach time,” why the Shakespearean character Horatio is invoked here, exactly how Jon and Jay work together and who did what on this album, pondering existentialism, theology, reality and internet gurus, the death of Jackie Paper and how children’s observations can be poetic and lyrical, new JOYFULTALK records, upcoming shows, other future plans, and much more.

we are gifted with great and thoughtful music by Jon and Jay, and it was a pleasure to speak with them again on my Kreative Kontrol show, which you can hear now. and never forget to listen to ‘Gold Horatio’ when it’s out on September 11! thanks!

JOYFULTALK @joyfultalk • Universe 1195

Constellation Subscriber Exclusive out now. Subscribe to Constellation at @mirlo.space or Bandcamp.

Multi-media artist Jay Crocker recently bid farewell to his home and studio in rural Nova Scotia after a 14-year stint. Universe 1195 references his now former street address and rounds up a clutch of previously unreleased tracks made there over the last few years, spanning stylistic elements found across his three previous JOYFULTALK albums for Constellation, where jazz, avant-pop, Systems Music and Minimalism percolate through Crocker’s distinctive electronic composer/producer sensibility.

Crocker is joined by drummer Eric Hamelin @notnowhamelin on a couple of these gems. Cover art by Paul Henderson @oldernowthen.

Sappyfest’s 2026 Official Musical Artist-in-Residence is composer, producer, arranger, instrument builder, multi-instrumentalist and award winning multimedia artist Jay Crocker!

Since relocating to the maritimes over a decade ago, Crocker has been broadening the scope and pace of his visual, sculptural and video work in tandem with his musical exploration. Guided by graphic scores, handmade kinetic sculpture, guitar synthesizers and junked/recuperated electronics, Crocker delicately weaves between human interaction and machine clockworks. As JOYFULTALK he creates instrumental compositions that straddle analog and electronic sound explorations in uniquely inventive ways.

At Sappyfest 2026, Jay Crocker will present both a new sculptural work and a JOYFULTALK performance!

We would like to acknowledge the support of the New Brunswick Arts Board in the Artist-in-Residence program. by @joyfultalk
