Tonight, my sister and I hand-delivered letters to my Latino neighbors letting them know that we’re here for them - grocery runs, school bus stop patrols, whatever they might need. Three of them texted back. A small, imperfect act, but it made me feel just a little bit less helpless.

We can’t do everything, but we can do what we can, where we are. Kindness matters. 🫶

👋 Hi, I’m Abigail—mom to twin preschoolers, marketing consultant, and joy scout. ✨

Let’s be real: the world we’re raising our kids in feels pretty heavy and scary.

This space is my small attempt at finding and sharing joy amid the chaos. From backyard play and budget-friendly activities to weekend adventures around the Triangle (that almost always end with ice cream), we’re choosing to look for light even when things feel overwhelming. 🍦

It won’t always be tidy (life with littles rarely is 🙃), but it will always be honest, a little scrappy, and hopefully a reminder that joy—no matter how small—is still worth chasing.

Microdosing joy ✨

This was my mother’s greatest gift to me. Noticing the glimmers. Letting yourself feel delight.

I have felt so overwhelmed and heartbroken and enraged lately and it’s easy to feel helpless, powerless.

January JOYnal ✨

I’m not gonna lie. I had to dig really deep for this one. January was ROUGH. I mostly oscillated between rage, heartbreak and dread, but there were glimmers of hope and life went on among all of it. Horrors on my phone kept me from Instagram but I called my reps, danced, sang, loved on my kids, made dinners, put disco balls everywhere, doom scrolled, cried myself to sleep and screamed into the void.

Some beauty:
- time outside on blue sky days
- spotting umpteen Great Blue Herons at Shelley Lake
- hide and seek during golden hour at @downtowncarypark
- moments of independent play and a gorgeous Anne of Green Gables graphic novel
- sunset from the parking garage

- sunlight in the windows and mirrored dots of light all around 🪩
- truly sublime yogurt from @jubalacoffee - what is in this yogurt?? Why is it so good?!

In my house, we call Mrs. Claus “Christmas Joyce.” The twins misheard the lyrics to Up On the Housetop and it stuck. Christmas Joyce might not be flying around the world with the reindeer delivering presents and getting all the glory, but she runs THE WHOLE operation.

This year’s Christmas theme: low budget, low stress, big joy. If it ain’t frugal, thrifted, locally-sourced or homemade, we ain’t doing it. 😆

For this book advent calendar, I brought our Christmas and winter-themed books out of hiding, added a couple from Grandma’s collection and the little free library at the kids’ school, wrapped ‘em all up with wrapping paper that has been in the closet for approximately years, wrote numbers 1-25 in Sharpie, and voilá. The kids were so excited to open up their first book tonight. Love this cozy new low/no-spend Christmas tradition. 📚🎄✨

Turns out we squeezed quite a bit of joy out of this month. Some highlights:

🧌 Troll hunting in @dixpark

❄️ A gorgeous nighttime wog (walk/jog) through the lights at @tanglewoodparknc for the Miles for Meals 5K

🏕️ Camping with friends (6 adults, 7 kids) which included log flipping in the woods looking for creepy crawlies with an entomologist and 🪨 painting.

🧇 A solo date with my lil bud for waffles and coffee at @beneluxcafenc

🎥 Charlie Brown Thanksgiving on the projector

🎃 Halloween pumpkin turned adorable front porch turkey with wooden head and feathers

🦃 A beautiful Friendsgiving outside with potluck delights, kids playing together, some favorite humans + donations to @nokidhungry

🍿 A visit from grandparents and the Grinch

🍽️ Full bellies on Thanksgiving and O asking each person around the table what they are thankful for. 💗

🚲 Our girl learning how to ride her pedal bike! 🤩

🎅🏼 An early visit with Santa on the @greatraleightrolley

🎄Decorating a truly magical tree with the most excited little helpers
