So many people have been asking if the lion was real in episode 4 of Average Joe Season 2. It was, in all but two shots! The scene was directed and designed by our amazing episode 3 and 4 director, @joytlane9 , who sadly there isn’t enough of in this video. But here’s how we made it work.

Two days before the scene was shot, they brought Mojo, the lion, out to the set and showed him the scene Joy designed, with nobody there. Then they took him home. Joy shot all the performances with the actors the next day, and then the day after, they brought Mojo back to do the second unit work and match what Joy captured. And because he’s such a great actor, if Mojo decided he wanted to do something else, we took it, so if Joy wanted to, she could adjust the performances later.

Each time we changed shots, they had to take Mojo out so the cages could be rebuilt around the new setup before they brought him back in. It didn’t make for a fast process, and Mojo was only going to give one or two takes, so we had to be decisive and think on our feet. Example: the camera was on the floor in the wrong spot when he had to jump, and we were trapped behind the cage with him in the room. I was able to grab a stick and push the camera through a hole in the cage to get it close enough just before he leaped.

As a rule of thumb, Mojo works until he’s had enough on any given day. How do you know when that is? The last shot of the video was the cue. Lol. He did sit down on the set and make us wait 45 minutes afterwards just because he felt like it. But we didn’t care. We loved working with him. He was beautiful, majestic, and kind. Just a beyond amazing experience.

If you’re not yet watching Average Joe Season 2 on @paramountplus, you need to get on board. There is nothing like it on TV!! Our amazing, action-packed episode 5 drops on Wednesday. #DirectorsLife by @joytlane9

I came to Nassau with a clear assignment: write.
Two months and Two feature scripts later… I can honestly say, thank You, God 🙏🏾
Now I’m revising, prepping, and also writing a new thriller with Ticarus Bunch and Stanley Aughtry
The stretch goal?
Filming all three—back to back.
Lord… You opened the door.
Now please give me the strength to walk all the way through it.

How can I NOT be creative when in THIS place?

Looking at an old shot list from Sweet Magnolias and feeling thankful.
For the opportunities.
For the lessons.
For the growth I couldn’t see while it was happening.

Same passion.
More wisdom.
A lot more trust.

Bigs: “Boss lady… I caught you a grouper.”
Me: “Cool. Clean it. Cut it. Come to my house and cook it.” 😌😂
Next thing I know…
*** calling neighbors
*** calling friends
*** calling anybody within a 5-minute radius

IMPROMPTU BAHAMIAN FEAST ACTIVATED. 🇧🇸

Im serving: Grouper, grilled lobster, grilled chicken, crab rice & peas, baked mac, potato salad, slaw, corn, salad… AND burgers because why not?

Shoutout to Bigs and his Auntie — Bahamians who cook with love, feed my spirit, and remind me that community is the real luxury. 💛

This is how stories get made.
This is how friendships are built.
This is how the Bahamas keeps loving on me.

Me: goes to museum to be cultured
Also me: sees a man skin rug
My brain: “Oh this is definitely a script.”
