Photo dump from my last bit of time in Thailand & then Indonesia w @handfulofchalk. The final part of my trip was super special… Being able to link up with @raskin_ on Koh Phayam, go straight into raging at EDC with @jay_lay20 & @noldiamonds, then scuba diving with Caitlin off Gili Air was the absolute best way to end this wonderful journey. So many delicious meals, euphoric moments, slow mornings, beautiful connections, and time to reflect. I truly feel like I grew and gained a better understanding of myself over there and that’s all I can ask for. There’s a million reasons to be thankful. So happy to be home though! I’m very much looking forward to these next 3 months of bopping around the US before another summer full of adventure at the lodge. What a life 🙏🏻 by @jp.bates

Christmas photo dump! It’s been over two months already. So many wonderful adventures, new friends, unfamiliar places, beautiful moments, lonely nights, happy walks, and days where I’m wrestling with some idea of how I “should” be feeling or experiencing this trip. I am super grateful to be here, and I have been learning a lot, and I would choose to do it all the same.
We all hear it over and over that we need to be happy alone and love yourself, which I am and I do. Being the extrovert I am though, I think I’ve enjoyed my own company enough sometimes and I still long for more authentic connection. To share these beautiful experiences with someone I love. It doesn’t have to be a romantic partner, just someone I love. At a certain point, it all starts to feel the same when it’s such a long trip and it’s mostly alone. I love adventuring, but it sort of loses part of its luster when it’s all the time everyday.
I think part of what I’m meant to learn here is to embrace these “negative” feelings I am experiencing so often. To let the loneliness wash over me, the deep ache for love sit on my chest. In the past, I’ve always just wanted to be happy, at peace, stoked, doing new things, be entertained, be excited, all the time. I now know this isn’t healthy or sustainable. I now know how much I truly value deep and authentic connections.
I miss my people a lot, and I miss the stability of the life I’m used to. Yet at the same time I am grateful for this separation which illuminates the ones I love in a way I didn’t see before. I’m also grateful to be spending this day alone, reflecting on how incredibly lucky I am for how my life has unfolded the past decade. I hope everyone enjoys this last little bit of 2025. To next year being the best one yet! taken in Krabi, Thailand by @jp.bates

Khao Soi everyday = happy jp.
Thailand has been everything I’d dreamed and more! I’ve been eating my heart out, exploring hidden beaches, appreciating beautiful temples, taking chances, finding stillness, running like a madman, making beautiful new connections, journaling, reading, and trying my hardest to be as present as I can. I feel so blessed to have all this time.
It’s definitely a learning process though, and it was very easy to romanticize a trip like this, but the reality is that there are plenty of moments where I am lonely and lacking connection. In those times, I remind myself that every day can’t be some grand adventure that is full of enlightening moments and new friends. I remind myself it’s okay to be a little bored and give myself a break to just simply exist. I have been finding that no matter how I might be feeling, if I can remember to take a few big, deep, intentional breaths, a sense of peace and presence will usually rush over me. I’ve been here a month now, with many more to go, and I am beyond grateful for that 🙏🏻 taken in Chiang Mai, Thailand by @jp.bates

Laos was amazing!!! There’s so much to say but to simplify it, everything was amazing and I’m so grateful to be over here. Currently en route to Chiang Mai to explore the north for the next 5 weeks with a bunch of friends from the lodge! What a dream 🥲 by @jp.bates

What a blessing life has been this year. It was so amazing to go back to the Tetons for the summer and truly take advantage of my time in the place that completely changed my life 10 years ago. All the beautiful new friends I met & the old ones I reconnected with, the countless adventures that filled my soul with pure joy, the fun ass days of work I had at the Heron, & now the chance to fulfill a dream I’ve had for a decade now. I’m currently at PDX getting ready to fly to SE Asia to spend 6 months over there. The current plan is to check out Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, and Vietnam, but I am leaving lots of room for spontaneity. I’m so thankful for all the love and support I’ve received to embark on this journey and also looking forward to meeting up with the homies over in Thailand for a lil bit of the trip. I’m so lucky to be able to spend the last bit of my 20’s doing something like this. What a privilege it is to be able to go and get lost for a while ✨🥹 taken in Drifting by @jp.bates

Did the Crest Trail in early August and it was every bit as spectacular as I remembered… Death Canyon Shelf, Alaska Basin, Hurricane Pass… all so so amazing. We had such a great 3 days out there and even summited we Mt. Fryxell while up on Paintbrush Divide! Felt so good to be way out there again and can’t wait for the Winds trip coming up on Monday! First things first though, got the paintbrush cascade loop to crush on Saturday! Teton dreaminnnnn taken in Grand Teton National Park by @jp.bates

28 sure feels good. So thankful for all the beautiful things and all the beautiful people in my life.
These past 2 1/2 years in Bend have been the best of my life, with the highest of highs and lowest of lows, allowing me to grow, learn, and change for the better. Sometimes it’s two steps forward, one step back… but I’m learning to be patient with the process and love myself unconditionally along the way 💗 by @jp.bates

During my trip to the Oregon Coast mid summer, I remember a moment while I was hiking along the cliffside in the misty forest, when I suddenly knew that I didn’t want to move east anymore, and that I was absolutely sure I was meant to stay in the PNW. That moment, that forest, felt sacred. I found the mossiest trees and collected the dew like holy water, and ran my hands across my face while feeling so beautifully alive and present. I recited mantras of gratitude and abundance, it felt like a baptism of sorts. I was so sure I was exactly where I was supposed to be and that I would also eventually arrive everywhere I was meant to be. I felt like a higher version of myself in this mystic moment, and recognized how impossibly lucky I am to be experiencing this world in all of its brilliance.

These violently windy days in Bend have me dreaming of the warmer ones behind us when we could carelessly swim in the frigid waters and bask in the sun all day. This one specifically was one of the best days, if not the best, of the whole summer. Cam, Caitlin and I frolicked up to no name lake just being absolute goobers having the best time ever. Naturally, we all jumped off the huge boulder many times and I eventually swam out to this little island in the middle of the lake. I felt so at peace and powerful at the same time, it was so surreal being out there in the middle of that glacial blue lake. Reminiscing on days like this help me remember how lucky I am to have these two by my side here in Bend. @cambatesss @handfulofchalk by @jp.bates
