A meaningful milestone in the most difficult season, @lynneparker730 wraps this round of 42 days of chemotherapy and 33 days of radiation today. I am so beyond proud of her and her strength throughout, and still balancing and finishing speech, occupational, and physical therapy at the same time as treatment. Truly incredible 🥹 Please share all of your love with her today ❤️

Somehow, this experience has made me even bolder (yikes, I know) so I have to give a plug for the importance of both research and patient support.

1. Brain cancer/glioblastoma have such unique challenges and they are still severely under researched. Treatment hasn’t changed in many, many years. New breakthroughs are desperately needed, as well as increased research on familial gliomas.
2. There are so many random incidental expenses that you would never think of if you haven’t been through a similar situation. We are lucky enough to be able to cover them (and that we are local to Duke and don’t have to incur significant travel expenses just to go to treatment), but I have regularly thought about those who might be going through the same thing but do not have sufficient resources to get them through similar intense appointment schedules. Please consider donating to reputable patient resource organizations that help with some of these expenses.

Lastly, thank you all for the continued support throughout this. As I said before, every gift and text and card and flower and dinner is appreciated and it is helpful to just know people are thinking of us and sending so much positive energy. Tuesday was a year since my mom’s diagnosis. It’s hard (even for me) to find the words to describe the past year. I am so beyond proud of her and how gracefully she has handled this. I have become the strongest version of myself (I half-joke I am the only person I am scared of these days) and have learned how grief and anger and joy and hope and sadness can all somehow coexist at the same time. I have realized how few things in life are actually important in a way only something like this can teach you.

Despite all of that, the reality of this disease still absolutely sucks. 60% of Glioblastoma families don’t get to celebrate the milestone we did this week, and we are even more lucky that my mom is still relatively healthy. SOC hasn’t changed in over 20 years, and we desperately need more research breakthroughs. Please support research efforts so one day this diagnosis doesn’t have to carry so much weight.

Finally- thank you to everyone who has shared words of hope and support over the past year. More than one time I have truly just paused and admired the sheer number of really amazing and special people we have in our lives.

Giving Cam a permanent place on the feed since he won’t stop complaining I don’t take pics with him.

So grateful @rainna27 proclaimed her like for me 9+ years ago at 2am in @coglins (RIP). Cam and I had been dating a few months, and I was graduating from graduate school later that day. Before that, she was the guy I was dating’s childhood friend, and after that we had 1000 memories growing into real adults together.
