HOLY ROLE MODELS FOR ALL OF US: SAINT WALBERT IV OF HAINAULT AND SAINT BERTILLE OF THURINGIA (FEAST DAY: MAY 11)

Saint Walbert IV of Hainault is a Christian prince who had "good looks, the valor, the virtue and the confidence" as well as a "good body of fine stature and well-formed limbs, strong, flexible."

On the other hand, Saint Bertille of Thuringia was a princess who was considered a "nymph among so many Princesses" and it has been said that "nature had made her the marvel of beauties."

Saint Walbert IV and Saint Bertille met, fell in love, and soon married and had saintly children and grandchildren, and spent their remaining days in Cousolre, France. They then lived happily ever after with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Saint Bertille was "always among the hospitals" and "worked incessantly for the glory of God, practicing acts of piety." She "did not let a moment pass in vain."

Saint Walbert was "no less devoted than she to the works of mercy. Now in all things, he loved, cared for and received people of the Church, to whom, as also to all other poor and needy people, he generously shared his goods. He was very careful to repair everywhere and duly maintain the temples and churches, and in several places to build new ones at his own expense and costs."

Saints Walbert and Bertille spent their nights in meditation of God’s mysteries and during the day, "they practiced works of mercy. They were devoted to fasting, almsgiving & prayers."

TRULY, THEY ARE CHRISTIAN ROLE MODELS FOR ALL OF US.

Saint Walbert IV of Hainault and Saint Bertille of Thuringia, pray for us!
