Gracie loves architects.

Thanks @solsticearchitects for visiting the Light Box House (2012, Jonathan Parks, FAIA) in Lido Shores, the coolest neighborhood in Sarasota.

He was one of the boldest and most imaginative Starchitects there ever was.

September 26, 1954 - 71 years ago - architectural legend Paul Rudolph was featured on the cover of the St. Petersburg Times Magazine. Illustration by IVEY.

In 1954, Paul Rudolph (1918-1997) was awarded the "Outstanding Young Architect Award" in an international competition and the resulting recognition led to larger projects around and outside of Florida.

Love seeing Rudolph's Walker Guest House, aka Cannonball House (1952, Sanibel FL) in the illustration, his first solo project after leaving his long-term partnership with Ralph Twichell.

Venice Biennale Ticket Booth (1952)
Architect Carlo Scarpa

Happy Birthday architect, designer, genius Carlo Scarpa (born June 2, 1906 in Venice, Italy - died November 28, 1978, Sendai, Japan). This small modernist ticket booth was my first Scarpa building encounter in 2024. Amazed that it was empty and in need of repair at the entrance to the Giardini Biennale art fair without any signage mentioning its significance. Would make a lovely information kiosk filled with maps and event schedules. Love the boat-shape, curved glass and sail-like canvas roof, sadly in tatters.

Happily the building was restored this year into a podcast space with interior design by @patricia_urquiola and Cassini.
