What a week at Axis! 🔥
We were lucky enough to have our Professor @jroebig here for a 3-day seminar — and the energy in the room was unreal.

Every session was packed with insight, detail, and that unique kind of magic he brings every time he visits. The focus was, as always, on strong fundamentals, but with new layers and ideas that left everyone inspired and eager to train.

A massive thank you to Professor Roebig for sharing his knowledge, and to everyone who showed up with such great energy — the club is stronger than ever!

The Legacy and Lineage of Axis Jiu-Jitsu Melbourne 🥋
Axis Jiu-Jitsu Melbourne stands on the shoulders of giants — carrying a lineage that traces back to Rickson Gracie, through Takamasa Watanabe of Axis Jiu-Jitsu Japan, to Jason Roebig of Axis Jiu-Jitsu Australia, and now to Robbie Aardoom, founder of Axis Jiu-Jitsu Melbourne.
Our story began in Japan in 1997 when Takamasa Watanabe, a Rickson Gracie black belt, opened one of the first official Gracie Jiu-Jitsu academies outside Brazil. His dedication to discipline, efficiency, and connection shaped generations of practitioners around the world.
From there, the Axis legacy grew in Australia through Jason Roebig, who received his black belt from both Kron Gracie and Takamasa Watanabe.
Jason was introduced to Rickson Gracie by Watanabe — an encounter that transformed his understanding of Jiu-Jitsu forever. Rickson’s teachings on breathwork, posture, and connection became the foundation of Jason’s approach, influencing countless students across the country.
Robbie Aardoom continued this lineage by opening Axis Jiu-Jitsu Melbourne, after earning his black belt under Jason Roebig. What makes Axis Melbourne unique is Robbie’s integration of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) — blending the art of movement and posture with the timeless principles of Jiu-Jitsu.
Through posture, breathing, and efficient movement, students discover how to generate effortless strength and fluid control — aligning perfectly with Rickson’s philosophy that “Jiu-Jitsu is the expression of the human body in its most natural form.”
