What happens when a designer works side by side with the people who build the object? In Kongsvinger, Norway, the answer begins with steel.⁠
⁠
Eskoleia has worked with sheet steel since 1912. More than a century on, the company still develops and produces its furniture in Kongsvinger, with development and manufacturing under one roof. Here, drawings meet machinery almost immediately, and an idea must hold up not just on paper but in metal. It is where Unit was born.⁠

Anchor lamp, Off the Shelf. A 5 kg plate anchor, flag line, pipe fittings, found granite and a standard LED unit.
It was meant to stand at the opening of BARPHA tonight. It is currently standing in a @ups hub in Kentucky.

It'll join the show at @duddhaus as soon as it lands.

New Arrivals: The Unit Series

Unit brings a new perspective to storage, combining the precision of heritage steel fabrication with an expressive approach to form.

Designed by Jonas Ravlo Stokke and developed together with Norwegian manufacturer Eskoleia AS, the series grew from a shared curiosity about steel’s dual nature and what their combined expertise could draw from it. A designer’s eye met by generations of steel know-how: production dating back to 1912, each piece still made to order at Eskoleia’s factory in Kongsvinger, Norway.

Six units, 24 colours, and a century of craft behind every fold make each Unit as considered in its construction as in its expression.

A new Off The Shelf lamp on its way to Design Philadelphia Festival to be presented by Dudd Haus. Opening Oct 2nd.

The freight box itself is made from 5 and 12mm plywood, toggle latches, strap hinges and a cable tie. taken in Oslo, Norway by @jrstokke
