Nothing quite like the magic of being in the presence of extraordinary artists. 🎶Thank you @tobygadmusic & @asideofcello for having me as a part of your concert for the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Festival. Looking back at an incredible California summer.
I had the honor of singing with Shelly Berg at the Miller’s beautiful home overlooking Napa Valley.
Guest performing alongside Livingston Taylor and some of the most talented classical music students and faculty at the Frost School of Music 🎶 Always a special time connecting with my Alma mater and now it’s football season so we root for the U 🙌🏽!

This was the first song I sang in front of an audience- it was my Kindergarten talent show. Then I sang it at my first audition, and from that audition I was accepted into a song and dance group that changed my entire life. On the 4th of July I had the honor of singing it with the Santa Rosa Symphony.

Thank you, @wickedlyschwartz & @alanmenken for some of the most beautiful music and lyrics ever written. ❤️

Sure, it’s nice to get praise but I generally don’t care what a review says. This one hits different. We were overjoyed that somebody saw our concert and fully understood what we have been trying to encapsulate since the inception.

Aaron and I built this together because we ultimately feel the same way about life and performance- we love being connected to music and we love being connected to people. Thank you, Christina Mancuso for capturing the very essence of what we created. ❤️

We would LOVE to come to your community. Help us get there and we’ll bring the energy and joy! 🎶 taken in Sonoma, California by @jrubaii

Today would have been my Aunt Safia’s birthday. We lost her almost two months ago and I’m finally sharing- not for condolances but because her spirit deserves to be amplified to the world. She was so special.
The last time I saw her I ask her to please visit me in the spirit realm. She replied, “JJ, I’ll be everywhere.” 🌈 🦋

To read about her beautiful soul, move to the next photo. ❤️

Sometimes I look in the mirror and I see your face.
The genes took a little bit of you and put them into me.
I love that.

You are my aunt
but you always said you didn’t want to be an aunt, you wanted to be a butterfly
So later I would called you ‘Butterfly Safia’
It always made me laugh and the sentiment really encompasses you.

When I think about you, I think about
Peace. Music. Beauty.
Tending to others.
Empathy. Simplicity.
Earthiness with a hint of air—
You were something of an earthbound angel.
One who gives— mostly in attention.
You were so attentive to the people around you.

I think of the turkey trot and their terrible shirt they give out each year—so bold and ugly but so ridiculous that you have to sport it; for nothing is that serious.

I think about your willingness to play. You were the queen of crafts and a child’s dream friend: playing make believe or offering up some new, random hobby. You loved being with me and my brother. You gave us your time and that was our greatest gift.

I think of your travel tales that would lull me to sleep
Magical moments abroad-
sometimes near death experiences and some of the most compelling adventures.

I think about dance. A waltz. A symphony.
I think of Buddhism and spirituality.
Languages.
And people. Communities, unknown to most;
revered by you.

You moved through life with a delicate nature—
Meek; in its true definition
Never weak
but without force.
You would lend a hand
Or a smile
Walk for many miles just to see the sunset
Or hear the birds calling
Or marvel at a flower.
Through your eyes, life is meant to flourish.
Beauty is all around us and so are you;
Now part of that beauty, forever. by @jrubaii
